I guess my question would be better put like this. Are there evil energies and good energies, or just good and bad uses for them?

Life and death, pleasure and pain, creation and destruction... all these things are part of life, and of the Divine presence. Is one side "good" and the other "evil"? It depends on your definitions, I suppose.

There are energies out there that it is perilous to deal with because they are energies of death/pain/destruction -- but they are necessary to the functioning of the universe. So I'd say the answer to your question is "yes", with a qualifier to the definitions of the words "good" and "evil".

Yes.
I am Wittan... the Old Irish Witchcraft that has been around a lot longer than Wicca. I have been practicing my faith for many years, and am the Grove Mother of a wonderful grove of several families. I have worked with many spirits, and will be happy to answer you based on my experiences which shape my beliefs.

Spirits are inherently neither evil or good. In and of themselves, Spirits or Souls are made of life force energy, and that is not godd or bad. It is the choices we make through the Spirit that make it evil or good.

Most people through moral choices have a good spirit, even if they have bad moments in their lives. There are some truely evil spirited people... ie. Charles Manson. These are not lost souls, they just have been so steeped in negativity, that they have gone evil.

All Spirits have the capacity for good and evil. It is the morals we follow that push one way or another.

Then there are evil spirits with good streaks out there in other demensions. They have lived many incarnations or ages with negativity and now are living an evil life. If they are still plugged into the life force, there is still a little good in them.

Hope this helps.

I have several Wiccan friends, and they seem to see it the same way.

I would agree with Pangel except that our subconscious programing affects the whole situation as to what spirit we are in sync with, even if it's just an attitude that's plaguing us. Maybe the two are the same and our thoughts are more real then we know and personality is now pretty easy to change with breakthroughs in psychology today. I think of evil as living and doing things backwards. The right thing at the wrong time, mostly. Light's not too good sometimes and dark's not, but oh all the beautiful colors in between. Check some of this out.

As a Wiccan, I can't answer this question without knowing what your definition of a spirit is.

Edit: Energy does not have bad or good qualities...it's energy.... The electricity in an electric chair and in the incubator keeping an infant alive is the same energy.

Edit: To the poster below. "Witta" isn't even pronouncable in Gaelic. Please do some research as the the flaws in McCoy's "Witta" nonsense. It's pretty much 100% bunk.

God has created Light out of the dark, and therefore the+ and the _ both are interlinked with each other, without one the other can not survive, and it is as above so below, or vice versa, therefore the reality of the evil spirits is must for the existance of the good spirts. Everything has its duilty , and it is its only reality, there is always very subtle space exists to recognize one from the other.

I am not a Wiccan sorry , so wont answer...
haha yes I will

spirit hold their personality for some time after death , and like people there are good and bad of course
I wouldnt say evil
because upon death we see the result of our actions in life ... and I think even the most awful people in life would change somewhat after this
but habits are hard to break and our personality is very strong ... so we would take a while to let go of any anger and frustration if we were so inclined
however the laws of spirit would not allow such interactions with them and us , if their intent is not good

We do believe in spirits. Most disturbances that people have though come from masses of energy that are left behind after an act of violence or repeated acts of violence.

As for the person who said about there being no such thing only god, why is your god referred to as the holy spirit if spirits don't exist???

I'm not sure exactly what you mean when you say "spirits." If you're talking about the gods, there are some who embody more "evil" qualities, such as Ahriman, Kali, and even Lilith, who has her harsh side. If you're referring to the spirits that you might have in your home, some can be malevolent while others are playful or even protective. Our resident ghost has a sense of humor and likes to taunt our cats.

It might be a personal belief I suppose.
I personally don't believe ANYTHING is pure good or pure evil. It would not be balanced. Even Hitler like dogs. There is good and bad in everything, but using the word "good" and "bad" are general. Many things aren't good or bad. They simply are. A hurricane isn't "bad". It simply is.

Nah, spirits don't exist according to Wiccans, so much as everything is connected on a different plane of existence. Tarot reading and the such is merely them speaking to you on the other plane of existence where you know what is, was, and will be according to the will of the universe.

That is, if I understand Wicca correctly.
