Martin S: So by cutting and pasting an answer, are you saying these are things to be embarassed about or are you simply trying to put out there what we believe. A little more clarity on your answer would be nice.

There is nothing that i am ashamed about my church. Our church is true and why would we try to hide it. There is not anti-mormon coment that cannot be over ridden. All of them are baced off of lies, falsehoods or misunderstanding. I love my relgion and through many years of research about it, and through prayer and fasting i know it is the true church.

I don't really think there is anything to be embarrassed about that the LDS faith teaches. The link you provided, I am not embarrassed about that either, I don't get why people are so upset by that. We don't believe that Satan is a diety.

You know when I was a kid I had a friend who was born again, we were walking along one day- and like children do we were saying rhymes, I said, "you step on a crack then you break the devil's back" Like I had heard many other times. She told me that was a wrong thing to say because Satan is our brother and we should love him. So we are not the only ones who think that way. Most just don't put it together like we do.

I really can't think of anything that embarrasses me about my religion.

Edit**

It is interesting about how Non members feel the need to pipe in. How can they be embarrassed, these are not their beliefs.

Theres nothing to be embarassed about all the anti-mormon garbage that gets posted on here can almost always be countered. A lot of the the things they post have a answer to them they just choose to believe all the false information throw out there. But it's that way with every religion.

I loved how the guy used the "racism" angle. Well, it so happens that there was a former slave who was ordained a priest in 1836. And Joseph Smith ran for president of the United States on an anti-slavery platform. There's more, but I don't have time to type it all here. So I'm not embarassed about the so-called racism.

Joseph Smith....hmm....most possibly the most hated figure in modern history. But as Jesus, Himself, commented: no prophet is accepted in his hometown (or country). And was Jesus not hated by the Jews? Further as to the Lucy Mack Smith's "visions" and stuff...well we openly claim to believe in visions. There is more to the world than we can see with the naked eye. And people explaining away the unexplainable is pretty stupid.

Polygamy...I'm descended from a polygamist. So were it not for polygamy, I wouldn't be here. I'm actually grateful that there were women and men selfless enough to practise plural marriage. (I scoff at the people that think that polygamy was a 'sex grab'....they were serious about having good solid marriages, and making their wives happy...and they had to be rich enough to support several families.)

I could go on and on and on....(and there are those on here who would contend that I do...) but I am not embarassed about my beliefs, not about the General Authorities or local authorities, whom I support, not about my covenants, not about anything. I kind of think it's sad that people have the whole "My Jesus is better than your Jesus" attitude going on.

Totally nothing!!! we have truths not weird things, so when we try to share the gospel and talk about it to other people there is no reason to be embarrassed. There are some people that react mean right after you say you're Mormon, that's the scary part, at least for me because I am a very sensitive person, but that doesn't affect my thoughts about the church or my faith.

And about the question in the link... hehe! that girl is wrong, one of the first things that the missionaries told me was that Jesus and Satan are brothers, and it totally makes sense, they were created by the same person... we are too.

Nothing exists in the LDS Church to shame me. To answer another's statement here, in the Book of Mormon, when Christ was crucified, many cities on the American hemisphere were destroyed (3 Nephi 8-9), making it impossible to identify them generations later. What's more, many biblical sites have yet to be unearthed for verification; why do you suppose that is? Because it takes money and time to uncover such historic sites for the world.

Archaeologists are continually finding remnants of civilizations in Central and South America that attest to the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. Regardless, faith comes first in my religion and all other mundane things will eventually surface. I don't worry that the world demands us to prove ourselves and the civilizations in the Book of Mormon. It is faith that must be evident before things are seen. Those without faith will never be satisfied with religious views.

No, I hold no shame for my faith and my religion. It is unfortunate that others of Christian denominations must first castigate the LDS Church to assuage their own bitterness and unbelief.

Latter-Day Saint here. Am I the first to respond?

Here's my list:

-The philosophy in which 1830's LDS went after the land in Jackson County, Missouri. It was very arrogant and set the tone for bad relations with their neighbors.

-Joseph Smith's secular conduct and speeches in the last 3 months of his life

-Mountain Meadows Massacre. Even though the Utah Territory was under martial law in a state of war with the US and the travelling party carried members of the militia that bragged of killing Joseph Smith and a popular authority sent to Arkansas months before arriving in Utah doesn't excuse what happened.

-Modern hypocrisy of some members. This is seen in every church, but if we are proclaiming the fullness of the gospel, then shouldn't we be more inclined to live like we know it?

I'm not really embarrassed..but I can see how it would be easy for other people to not understand or make fun of some of the teachings of the Church. Makes me sad...mostly because it takes longer than they are willing to discuss the subject for them to even began to understand.

This just weeds out those who really want to know and understand from those who really just want to mock.

Now, if you asked me about the behavior of some member...I could take a few thousand words to describe some of the stuff...LOL

I'm embarrassed that I only have 2 months food storage. I am trying really hard to get more. One obstacle I face is that we moved out-of-state to a costlier, smaller home and I don't have a proper basement to store food, just a 4ft high crawl space. I'm doing what I can though.
