Ask an atheist to imagine a hypothetical situation where God DOES exist and they'll answer without too much fuss. Ask a theist to take a hypothetical situation where they're wrong about ANYTHING with regards their beliefs and they'll often refuse to or insist that they can't. How are you supposed be open to alternative idea's if you can't even IMAGINE that you may be wrong about something? I'm aware that this problem isn't universal by the way.

Well, primoa1970, I can, which means that I can do something you can't. Come back to me when you can.

Fireball226, what if someone suggested otherwise? Albert Einstein proved that parallel lines actually DO meet, in reality.

Well there you go. Primoa has summed up what I told you the other day - they are completely incapable of imagining that they might, possibly be wrong.

Are many Atheists afraid of alternative explanations? I've asked several questions and 9 times out of 10 I get some coy remark and total disregard to my question. I've even said to some atheists that have posted questions on here that they've asked a good question but when I tell them I still believe in God, I get thumbs down. Why is that?

properly it somewhat is obtrusive that she had intercourse with somebody. some human beings basically opt for to come back up with exchange variations. i does no longer say the obtrusive one is that she slept with Joseph. i think of the obtrusive answer is she slept with somebody else and, being afraid of what Joseph would do, she pronounced it replaced right into a miracle and he believed her--then they went around city telling of the superb miracle. the ultimate reason Atheists arise with each style of exchange motives is twofold: a million) to show out how uncomplicated that's to come back up with yet another rationalization. 2) to coach that extremely outlandish motives would properly be made up and nevertheless be extra possibly than the virgin beginning.

If God did not exist................ Neither would we....... mankind would have destroyed itself long before now. We are incapable of the level of love that he has for us.. We are to into ourselves.. to care for & love one another- I know there are those that try... and are pretty good at it- but the majority of mankind is evil, selfish, DESTRUCTIVE... which Proves to me- that there IS a high being out there in control.
Want me to imagine... Ok- If God did not exist- this would be a black void- nothing... If we evolved-- we evolved without a conscience.. NO natural instinct for mankind to "SURVIVE" we are to busy--killing each other.. to busy letting mankind starve.. only thinking of self... basically-- Less intelligent than the animals.. nah..
I prefer to believe God is in control...at least then we stand a chance.

I'm not afraid of alternative explanations. In fact, I seek them out. I find it all interesting and absorb and incorporate what I know with what I've learned.
I just purchased The Urantia Book and The Gnostic Gospels. I can't wait until they arrive at my door.

I am a Jew and know many Christians well and I can say neither they nor I are afraid of alternative explanations. We just think they are totally wrong

Oh pshaw don't be too hard on e'm, I'm sure some atheist couldn't imagine themselves as theist, and I'm sure some theist can imagine a Godless world.
Don't generalize :)

Many Christians are NOT afraid because we have comfort in the truth...... we all were atheists at some point long ago, and have comfort now in knowing who and what Jesus Christ is.
We are saved, there is no need for fear.

But the problem is this with your logic:
We could never imagine God NOT to exist......because we know that there is no possible way that He doesn't.
Hypotheticals really do not matter to us.........we know the truth.
Edit:
I really shouldn't get frustrated with you people......I was in your shoes once as a non-believer.
