That's deism.
It's also the most rational theistic belief system out there, if you asked me. Some of the founding fathers would agree.
But there is no evidence for a god, and I find the watchmaker's argument unsatisfying. So atheism seems to be the most logical point of view.

Yeah, I am open to the idea and find it certainly more plausible than the religious depictions of deity we have. Still there is no evidence for any of it so I remain in the absence of evidence an unbeliever. It only pushes the whole question back a notch to where did this creator come from, how can we except this being from the logic we require elsewhere. There may equally be a naturalistic explanation. Thus, I remain a skeptic.

Totally open to the idea, since God doesn't "run things" as you would define them anyway. Yes He created all things, including the natural and scientific laws of the universe. And yes, He may live in our hearts (some of our hearts, I should say!), but He never takes away our free will; our ability to keep making the wrong choices, bad decisions and same mistakes over and over again.

Then where the hell did he go?
And what is he doing?
And if he isn't doing anything then does he exist any more at all... for without form nor function (i.e. process, not purpose) how can something exist at all?
While it makes more sense than the christian perspective by a long shot........... I can one-up you by claiming that a superbeing IS the Universe (or at least made the Universe of itself and ceased to be what it was before).... or vice versa as you may wish to express it.
Even so.... these theories are all irrelevant as not a single one of them really influences the real world as we know it..... they are superfluous notions and thus are eliminated by Ockham's Razor.

I'm unable to believe that a clock maker would walk away from his clock.
Have you ever created something and walked away from it?
I created an Access database for employee efficiency.
Input screens and reports.
No way would I walk away!
It was my baby!

I am opened to that idea, I am an agnostic.
Who knows if a creator exists ,we might not even be its favorite species , maybe it does not care, or it is busy doing something else and while for us 2,000 years are a long time, for this creator it is just a blink of an eye ,and it might come to our rescue in the future? The possibilities are endless, who knows?

It's a nice idea, but isn't it a bad example if we are supposed to take responsibility for our actions.
Seriously though, over the past 1000 years or so, science and religion have split so that science asks where things came from and how they work; religion asks how should we behave.

But then you have to ask yourself, why did God create the earth? Was it for his enjoyment, to watch us suffer and kill each other?
If you believe in this then you can't believe in the Bible, which is a another argument completely. Though I don't know why anybody wouldn't.
Oh and what about all of those phenomenons, of people seeing angels or being spoken to by God?

God is still running things. God original plan for us has not change! Everything took a different path because of what happened in the Garden of Eden. Once Earth is cleansed from iniquity, we will have a chance to reverse it to its original condition and enjoy everlasting life in a peaceful paradise Earth.

Everything is possible. Actually that sounds more likely to me than the theories about some God controlling everything & watching everyone at all times.
Deism makes a lot more sense than theism if you ask me.
