I haven't visited a doctor since I was a child, so I'm clueless about all things doctor-related. I was wondering if anyone knows how long a doctor's appointment usually is, because I am trying to work out if I need to book a double appointment or if one will be sufficient!

When you call the doctor's office and tell them what you need to be seen for, the receptionist will be able to determine if you need a "single" or a "double" appointment.

It depends on what you need to you. Since you haven't been seen in a while, it will probably include a new patient visit or a physical. Those are typically 45-60 mins. OTher appointments are typically 15 mins. You shouldn't need to book a double appointment. It should done by the receptionist to block you sufficant time. The waiting often comes from the doctor being behind. It happens often. I always plan on being at my doctors for at least 45 mins even for something simple like a cold.

Usually the appointment lasts until you are done, presuming you are speaking of a physician and not a psychiatrist.

it depends on how long the wait is. sometimes you'll get right in and out in a half hour, and sometimes you'll be sitting in the waiting room for over an hour, twiddling your thumbs.
