The St. Regis and the Waldorf Astoria are about 10 blocks from Times Square and are world famous hotels.

There is the Marriott right in Times Square - expensive though.
Recently got a great price at the Hitlon on Ave of the Americas - the room was 5*. It's located between Times Square and Central Park.

I'm staying at the Doubletree suites right in Times Square - I have read tripadvisor reviews and they are generally good
To be honest, as long as the hotel is clean and the staff are friendly - it is all I look for in a hotel
