A work friend of mine is going on maternity leave and will only get 9 weeks paid maternity leave. She has been working for the organisation for nearly 3 years as a permanent full time employee. Is she entitled to more paid leave?

the other poster is correct, the only requirement is 12 months unpaid leave. anything else (esp with pay) is a bonus. australia has one of the poorest records for maternity leave in the world.

It depends who you work for. No company has to pay their staff maternity leave. If you are a permanent employee they must give you 12 months unpaid leave though. If a company is offering any amount of paid maternity leave then its a very good company to work for and I would thank them.

This is actually very good as most companies only offer 6 weeks paid & 12 months unpaid.

Some businesses only have the 12 months unpaid leave so thank yourselves lucky.

i worked for a large banking company and got 3mths paid maternity leave plus any holiday time owing and then another 9mths unpaid leave.

I don't think its law that you have to get anything.

It depends on your place of employment and any contractual agreements. Get her to call the wageline and ask or they will point her in the right direction.
