Thinking of buying either a jamis nova or a specialized Tricross. Anyone have any opinions of either of these bikes?

Both are great bikes, but different. The Jamis is a steel framed bike. It comes with Shimano 105 components all around. The specialized in aluminum and comes in different levels depending on how much you want to spend. The model that is comparable to the price of the Jamis is the Tricross triple. This is different than the Jamis that has a road based double chainring. The Specialized basically has a mountain bike based component group. I personally prefer the Jamis setup.

the Jamis is good, but the Specialized is more "bang for your buck"
you might also try a Bianchi
