Hi there!
There are several possibilities for muscle pain. First is muscle related problem, maybe you stretch it too much and tend to overuse your muscle or sitting in wrong position etc. Second is nerve related pain especially if it starts from your back and the pain radiates to the entire leg accompanied by numb and tingling sensation on the foot. Third is side effects of medication, especially pills this could cause thrombosis or blood clot in the vein in 1-2% of people and this presents as severe pain in the leg that starts gradually.

The last possibility is mineral/ salt imbalance. The lack of salt and magnesium in your diet could cause that and it usually happen at night. The pain is more like cramping kind of pain with moderate intensity.
If it's the case you could try some complementary medicines for muscle cramp. this usually contains magnesium and muscle relaxant in it. If the pain persist then need to see doctor/ physiotherapist.

Make sure you are eating a balanced diet You may need potassium. Lack of potassium can cause muscle cramps which will leave your muscles feeling sore. Bananas are a good source of potassium. Protein is also important.Sports drinks have minerals that will help during workouts. It is also important to stretch and warm up before strenuous exercise.

Sometimes the positions we sit in if they are for too long can cause this kind of pain as well.

Because of the intensity of the pain I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation to see what they think is going on.
