Hi...

FBC= Full Blood Count. This information is usually used trying to identify if a patient has anemia. If the red cells are smaller or larger than normal, or if there's a lot of variation in the size of the red cells, this data can help guide the direction of further testing.

ESR = The erythrocyte sedimentation rate is a non-specific measure of inflammation

The ESR is increased by any cause or focus of inflammation. The ESR is decreased in sickle cell anemia, polycythemia, and congestive heart failure. The basal ESR is slightly higher in females.

Fasting glucose...You'll have to fast for 12 hours, the test will measure the amount of glucose in your blood serum..A test used gor diabetes screening...

Renal profile, gives an indicator of how your Kidneys are functioning...

Lipid profile= Revelant to cholestorol..

I used to be a Phlebotomist (person who takes blood)...Did a hundred of these tests every day...On a wide spectrum of people..

It'll be just two possibly three tiny bottles of blood... Basically the doctor is checking everything...He's giving you an MOT!!!

It doesnt mean anything...Sometimes when someone not well...Tired, you know...got a symptom...The docs will use these tests to just find out how well you're functioning..

Ive had them too...Im 25... Mine were ok...

Please dont fret..!!

ITs really nothing to worry about

These are all blood tests, and include tests for diabetes, kidney and liver function, cholesterol, anaemia, infection. Don't know what RA [rhesus?] factor will be, but the others are pretty standard - our surgery does them for all patients annually. This really looks like a screen to see if anything significant shows up.

For hormone tests, you will need to ask your doctor, as the haemo clinic will only do what he requests.

Don't worry about the test. A fasting test means you must eat nothing and drink only water from midnight till after the test. This will probably be one or more small samples taken from the vein in the crrok of your elbow - one prick with the needle is all you will feel. Do ask the staff at the hospital what the tests are about - they can reassure you. Good luck, and there's nothing at all to worry about - these are routine counts to give the doc a picture of your overall health.

They are all lab blood tests. You don't have to do anything. But you have to be fasting or on NPO before the blood is drawn. for Chem Screen:

the electrolytes are :
NA stands for sodium
K- stands for potassium
CL-stands for chlorides
CO2- serum bicarbonate

for Fasting Lipid Profile . That's for fat or cholesterol

FBS- that's fasting blood glucose for Diabetes ( DM)

Renal profile- for kidneys function- that might include BUN ( blood urea nitrogen) and Creatinine.; creatinine clearance, proteinuria and glomerular filtration rate.

Liver profile- among other things. the impt liver functions tests are

ALT ( formerly SGPT) alanine aminotransferase
AST-( formerly SGOT) -aspartame aminotransferase
LDH- lactate dehydrogenase

Under Hematology-

FBC or CBC stands for full/complete blood count

RBC stands for red blood cells or erythrocytes. .

ESR- erythrocytes sedimentation rate.

RA- stands for Refractory Anemia- biological markers for Myelodysplastic Syndrome Disease( MDS)

RDW- red cell distribution width

To prevent from being stuck again; you need to ask your Attending or primary care Physician (PCP) to order T3 and T4 ( both thyroxin binding globulin) and TSH ( thyroid stimulating hormone) as the lab won't draw and test blood without an order.

Good Luck! Blood tests are very impt tools for the doctors to determine your health problems. and arrive at the right diagnosis. Your apprehension and fear of the unknown is understandable. Just let the lab technicians know if this is your first experience; so they will be be more gentle and understanding.

They are all blood tests. If I am correct, he is checking your blood sugar, liver enzymes, kindneys and checking your blood for clotting ability and blood count. RA factor makes me think that he is checking for Rheumatory Arthritis. But, just to let you know that I am not a doctor and I could be wrong. I know that normally when I hear fasting glucose it is a test where they make you drink something and keep taking blood over the next several hours to monitor your break down of it. This is normally a test for diabetes.

Planned parenthood takes all of your information right down to your social security number, there really aren't any clinics that remain nameless especially if you have certain STD's. Like HIV, if you have HIV the state has to be notified. It's best to go to your family doctor, and if you're just worried about a UTI, why do want to remain nameless? Just because you have a UTI, doesn't mean you have an STD. But, if you're concerned you have more than a UTI, you need to be seen asap because the longer a disease goes untreated, the worse it will get.

These are ALL blood tests. You will have several vials of blood removed. You can ask for hormone tests aswell, but the pathologist/nurse must be aware in advance that you would like these tests aswell. You must also have a doctors recommendation/referral to get them done aswell
