religion = a belief or faith in a deity

atheist = does not believe in deities

therefore= atheism is not a religion

some pagans, witches etc believe in gods and goddesses of the elements and the spirits, so in theory that could be classed as a religion, but in real terms it is usually a respect for mother nature and fellow human beings, and not regarded as a religion per se

so atheism cannot have core beliefs, except the belief that there is no god and no devil

Atheism means you don't believe in deities nothing else. Most atheists have no religion. Other than not believing in deities atheists are very diverse and have a wide range of opinions on different topics. I myself subscribe to a humanistic life philosophy which I think sums up my core beliefs. Some people have argued that humanism is a religion but others have pointed out that it would be a religion without a God if so and that it disaffirms supernatural events of all kinds in the absence of proof. For me atheism describes what I don't believe in and humanism what I do believe in.

This is the way I see it, logically speaking there is no reason that someone who does not believe in G-d would want to be conversing with believers. To me this is a waste of time and illogical; it would be like me questioning Hindus about their faith when I do not believe in their 'gods'. It is not sound reasoning and I don't understand people who claim they do not even believe G-d exists to be visiting this site.

I especially love it when they say "it is more like an escape from religion"; oh really, then why do you come to a site that is religiously based on the belief in G-d? I don't know, I guess it is just me; but if I were a nonbeliever or I was trying to escape religion. The absolute last thing I be doing is conversing with people who believe in G-d. Reading anything that is based on religion. And I would especially NOT be asking questions about religion, faith, belief in G-d.

IF I were an Atheist, I would not waste my time here. I'd be visiting sites and conversing with people, who believed exactly the way I do. I don't understand or get the logic behind why they are on R&S. It's mind-boggling.

Atheism in my mind couldn't be a religion since athiest do not believe in God and all religions tend to focus their beliefs on a God or gods.

Why do people keep asking this?

If atheism is a religion then bald is a hair color.
If atheism is a religion then nudity is a brand of clothing.
If atheism is a religion then not collecting stamps is a hobby.

"If atheism is a religion, then: Silence is a language. Dead is a state of mind. Hunger is a gourmet meal. Health is a disease. Bald is a hair colour."

1)We must drink the blood of babies
2)We must convert people to use crack and get drunk
3)We think of our children as "cute little chimps"
4)We must have a COMPLETE lack of morals
5)We must commit adultery
6)we must kill
7)We must covet
8)We must steal
9)We must bear false witness

OK,It's either that(what you guys want to believe, ignoring the 16,000,789,496,134 times you have been corrected by the truth)

OR

WE DON'T BELIEVE IN GOD.That's it,nothing more,period,finished,finito,basta,nothing follows

Of course, this will be ignored,Not like a Christian ever lets anything so trivial as "TRUTH" disturb their fantasy

Only if you live with fear
If you are knowledgeable and just live with your knowledge and you own truth and you don't question yourself then you are satisfying your soul for your own personal growth that is why we are here on a Journey through life to live with our own truth not what we a brainwashed into believing and living in Fear : )
After all God gave us all Free Will and with that came the choice to believe in what ever we want
