There is no ethereal being living in the sky who looks like us and is going to tally up our misdeeds after we die. (One's "soul" is merely one's identity, a creation of the brain and it dies when the brain dies.) Just in case, though, I would start tallying up THAT BEING'S misdeeds starting with the 7-legged lamb in New Zealand.

If you are on the highway to hell, what is the speed limit?
Look, such a biblical passage is exactly what one would expect from one of the leaders of a cult. "We are right, everybody else is wrong and is going to Hull. Or Whitby."
You get precisely the same thing today from several of the sects of Christianity. Until recently you got the same from the leaders of the USSR and you will still find it in China, North Korea and parts of the Islamic world.
Independent thought cannot be tolerated as it can lead to the rejection of the leader's authority or removal of the thinker from the cult, thereby weakening the power of the leader.
Some one who answers on this site pretty frequently says that the atheist's bible has one word "Think". I'd say the bible of the deists and theists is pretty similar.

1 Corinthians 3:19-24 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)
19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
20And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.
21Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are your's;
22Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are your's;
23And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.

You're misrepresenting the passage...as many so often do.
It means that God is wiser than all of mankind...that the best and brightest the "world," or "prideful humanity" has to offer is foolishness compared to the wisdom of God.
It means that God uses those that the "world" considers to be "fools," to humble those the "world" considers "wise."
We are to understand that God gives wisdom to those who ask Him for it, and it is not based on "worldly popularity" or "genetics." Solomon asked for wisdom to rule God's people rightly, and God granted him more wisdom than any other man, because his heart was right and humble before God. God also granted Solomon wealth beyond any other man because he asked for Godly wisdom above all else.
Wisdom is something we as Christians are told to ask for...and to seek out. Our motivation for wisdom is not for our own glory....which is something in total contrast to the worldly quest for knowledge by secularists.
Logic and thought is not condemned....arrogance and pride are....and those are both paths to the pit if one is not careful.

No, no, no that's not what it's saying at ALL. What it's saying is, the wisdom of the world will always fail, so don't put all your faith in it. And it's TRUE! Think about the progress science has already made. But do you really think that it's going to remain the same? Of course not! So, if we put all we have into something that's going to continue to change, we're going to be disappointed.
It doesn't say that we can't be smart, and that we can't seek knowledge.

read on...it is saying all of mens thinking is futile..let no one boast in men for all things belong to Jehovah
The wisdom of the world is foolishness with God..he requires humility on our parts...not boastful pride in ourselves or other humans.

He cannot - that is the whole point to the Bible. God cares not whit for your flesh. The mind takes you away from Him. It's your spirit that He wants fellowship with and that requires abundant faith. I hope it all begins to make sense to you soon. GBY!

"For the wisdom of this world is foolishness..." does not mean don't think. It means don't think you're smarter than God.
Any good scientist will admit that the more we learn, the more we realize we don't know.
