I say good job to those who vote and jammed fax machines and tied up phone lines. :)

True, it is the people. I just like that our voice is being heard and followed for once.

Eh I really don't believe it.Afterall it is politics, and everyone on here who thinks that just because someone changes their stance means that they will actually change what they believe in is ignorant.I mean that's all part of the political game, you would think that considering many people voted bush into office not once but twice would make you realize its all a game.Politicians will say whatever it takes to get them elected and once they get into office they do whatever they truly believe in.I remember when the governor of Texas had the same stance about illegal immigration and even set up the cameras on the border and now.........we have nothing. It was all a political ploy on his part. But who knows maybe some of these politicians actually will go through on the things they say they will do but i wouldn't hold my breath on it.

It certainly looks that way--McCain, if elected will continue where Bush left off he does not cover other issues prefer to talk about war and more war at any cost, he states. He pretends to care so much for Veterans--then why didn't he know about the situation at the hospital in Washington and the condition in which the Vets. had to endure--the man does not tell the truth. McCain and Hillary must not win, this country deserve better leadership we will not get it from the two. We need a new direction from a new leader not caught up in the scheme of good old boys politics.

McCain changed his mind because his star is fading fast.

I say that as a guy who supported John McCain in 2000, and felt he should have been the republican candidate instead of George W. Bush.
McCain was a genuine populist outsider up till 2000, and even possibly up till 2004, where he often contradicted Bush, the neo-con idealogues, and often the mainstream of the Republican party, and even defended John Kerry a few times, during the 2004 campaign, regarding Kerry's Vietnam record.

But after 2004, McCain morphed into Bush, in his attempt to be mainstream enough to get the Republican nomination. He tried to be Bush, but he's NOT Bush, and so lost his base, and never gained trust among the pro-Bush base.
And now he's trying to be his own man again, but it's just too late, his campaign is blown, and he's lost his beleivability as a reformer and an outsider.

McCain has a few other flaws too, that would have hurt him later.

1) He graduated close to the bottom of his class at West Point. (After Bush, Gore and Kerry, I'd like a candidate who had higher than C's in college.)

2) He was involved in the Charles Keating savings and loan scandal, back in the late 1980s , the lone Republican, and 4 Democrats.

3) There are also allegations that during his 5 years as a POW in North Vietnam, he made concessions to the North Vietnamese, in exchange for better treatment, and fairly or not, could be characterized as a traitor. Although I regard a guy who was tortured pretty much daily for 5 years as a veteran hero.

So basically, despite McCain's military veteran/POW status, I think he'd be vulnerable to pretty much the same attacks as John Kerry.

But yeah, McCain has tapped into the one issue that could turn the tide. I hope someone less discredited picks it up and runs with it, like Romney, Brownback or Thompson. Or Gingrinch.
Guiliani has already supported amnesty, and would be flip-flopping as much as McCain is if he reversed himself.

I think that McCain is a day late and a dollar short dealing with the illegal immigration issue

Just as the story says, his stance has hurt his campaign and ability to raise money. The American people are making a loud statement about illegal immigration and it's about time politicians hear them.

Very interesting. However, I'd want to read it carefully. The last bill had things like a 10 year statute of limitations that would have provided a rolling amnesty forever, and the press didn't even report it.

As long as they require us to feed them their bananas, I think we have the right to rattle their cages to get their attention. This country isn't theirs alone to give away. And they don't have very many that do agree with them on this issue. McCain changed his stance because his brilliant ideas were killing him in his run for the white house. He'll still say one thing, and do another imo. That's why I'm going for Ron Paul to clean this country of illegals, change our laws to benefit Americans.

Because he was getting his butt handed to him by opponent who were against illegal immigration.

I hope this is a lesson to politicians who support illegal immigration.

Support it and you will be shown the door.

Too late for McCain though, he is dead in the water.

Because he has been all but abandoned in support because of his policies over it.
Arizona has become the trouble hotspot for immigration issues and he surely has done his home state no favors so far regarding it.
