140,000 bridges need repaired. Where do we get the money for that? For the amount of tax that I pay they should have been maintained. I think we should be able to hold the politicians accountable. I can see that happening. NOT. Then they wonder why there is so much apathy.

1. Visit www.highways.org which has links to the federal government "inventory" of bridge inspections where the result was unssafe or "deficient"

2. Demand of our legislators that the inspection reporting system get the data to motorists in a form that is intelligible, to make it easier for us to see which bridges in our neck of the woors are at risk of same thing happening as in Minnesota and a lot of other bridges that did not get the same media circus.

3. Ask for public hearings around your state, where the legislators can find out how the people would prefer for infrastructure repairs to be funded
* toll roads
* property taxes on elderly people homes
* property taxes on SUVs
* higher gas prices through higher gas taxes
* get out of Iraq & spend the money on rbridge repairs

My heart also goes out to the people in MN, but we need to encourage Congress to return ALL fuel tax money to the states where it originated from. Every gallon of fuel purchased has federal, state, & local taxes, & Congress has been playing a sad game of holding back fuel tax money from the states, forcing them to change their laws, such as lowering the BAC limit for DUI from .10 to .08 to recieve their highway funds, & then, putting that money needed for roads on their transportation earmarks, such as little used bus terminals, bike paths, airports, etc.
