"And He said: 'Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD.' And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice."
1 Kings 19:11-12
This is one of the great theophanies - the moments when we truly realize what God is like. And it is the startling discovery that God's voice does not shatter mountains or rain down fire; it is a gentle breath, a whisper of fresh air. It is only in still, quiet contemplation that we can truly hear God's voice.
Peace to you.

God speaks through many ways: nature, through people around you, His Word, prayer, and even- as the Scriptures say- in a small whisper.
God speaks to me mostly through prayer and His Word.
He does speak- always, when we want him to. The question is not "Why doesnt he speak?" The better question can be "Why am I not listening?"
If you truly believe in His existence and you truly want to listen to His voice, pray. But not just a sub-way prayer. Talk with God. Spend time with him, and after you've said or asked what you want....wait silently and you will hear. Read his word- not just to read it, but to study it and analyze it. He will guide you to the answer.
All in all, God speaks to us through so many people and we usually dont notice because we expect to see someone dressed in white to come and tell us something. But with faith, prayer and even some fasting, our ears can be opened to His Voice.
I pray that you live this experience, because it is like no other and very rewarding.

Yes, it's always the same, and He always clears His throat first before speaking to me. Does He have some sort of self-esteem problem? Just because I don't believe in Him.

It's what we want it to be.
Some claim god speaks to them to validate their whacked viewpoint.
Others like myself look for something that seems reasonable like what John said in his Gospel "If we know nothing else we know the God IS Love."
Sounds good to me love is healthy and positive. Then when I get moments of intense love, like when I realize someone has done something really nice for someone else, or someone suffered to benefit someone else......well that's God talking to me, and I find it overwhelming not because I'm so guilty and undeserving so much as I'm so small and God let me see his love manifest change in a world with to few miracles.
I feel like a puppy, that God would care about me makes me happy even if I'm stupid and incorrect about everything else.
I guess I'm just a little bit.ch for god.

1Kings 19:11-13 Yes always the same way without the wind earthquake or fire thankfully.
In old English "still" means soundless "small" means much the same today (not overpowering)

God speaks to us through His Word and by His Holy Spirit. He also uses other people to wake us up to where He is leading us to do His will.
