I got a ticket for speeding when I know I really wasnt. It was late at night around 1am and was going throught a small town and got pulled over for speeding. He claims I was doing 47mph in a 35 but I knew I was doing the speed limit. If I go to court it my word against his and I know theyll take his side but this is wrong. Should I just pay the $91 ticket or stand up for my rights? No stupid answers please but I know someone will say something juvenile

Not what you are going to want to hear, but will cheaper and easier and less hassle in the long run just to pay the ticket.

It is your word against a police officer's and in that case, they will take his word over your's every time. They could set up numerous court dates for your to appear and have to take time off work, only to have a continuance because the officer could not get off duty, or the Court did not have time to hear a traffic case...some cases have drawn on as much a 2 years. If you happen to move to another location in the meantime, notices are still sent to your prior residence and you could end up getting your license suspended and bench warrant issued for a traffic date you have not ever been notified of because it was sent to your prior address and not forwarded or forwarded in time to attend the Court hearing.

Not that it will do a heck of a lot of good, unless the cop has a history of doing the same thing (writing false tickets to meet a "quota") to numerous people, contact either the commanding officer or IAD and file a complaint...they are required to at least give the appearance of an investigation and it goes in the said officer's file, even if he is "cleared" this time. If enough people have already had the same complaint, they may offer to drop the ticket.

Sorry, but cops don't just write speeding tickets for 12 mph over the limit to people driving 34 or 35 in a 35 zone. So, I don't believe you. And neither will the judge. Pay the ticket.

Make sure your speedometer isn't broken. Happened to my mother once, the cop didn't give her a ticket and just gave her a warning since she had a clean record.

Go to court and if it's your first offense most likely they will drop it. If you had more than one offense you still have a really good chance of them reducing the fine. Give it a whirl, it doesn't cost anything extra. There is a spot on your ticket where you can check a box to have a court date set for you.
Good Luck

Pay it unless you can waste a day going to court and gamble that the cop wont show up...

Stand up for your rights that what you have them for! Its worth a try and if you loose in court you will have to pay anyways but maybe you could get lucky and hopefully win

Best of luck ^_^

Stand up for yourself!!

If the cop doesn't show up, they could throw out your case anyway.
