Hugging brings the child close to your body to feel like they are safe and you will give them shelter and love. Kissing is a traditional sign of affection and shows exactly that.. you love them! It is important because showing these signs of affection to children will make they feel more confidant and be happier because they will feel loved and cared for and are more likely to pass this on to their own children.

I personally do it because I love my kids, they need to feel that they are secure and know that they can trust you... At a young age kids are very impressionable. So if you show love to your kids, they will show love to others. In the matter of respect and compassion... My moms side of the family does not show love too much or use the words I love you... My dad side of the family does and I feel more relaxed and comfortable around them more... You feel more appreciated for the things you do and who you are. Not that my mom's side of the family does not appreciate me, it's just nice to know and hear the words at the same time... Action speak louder than words...And in this case I am a firm believer of that...
I want my kids also know if they ever need anything from me or need help they will know that I will be there for them always....
I don't believe that there is one definition of love, there are many, so if you ask one person to define it, it will be different form the next person you ask.... To the beholder of the heart.....

Because it is crucial for them to grow up normally. I don't quite remember the details, but I learned it in my Psychology class a few years ago. It was an experiment with two monkeys.

Did your parents not do this to you? That would be quite sad, I'm sorry if you weren't shown love and compassion by them if that's the case.

We hold their hands and hold them for the same reason... love, compassion... and security.
