when you do not agree with their belief," I will pray for you".
It is IRRITATING BEYOND BELIEF, number one if you really want to pray, why do you feel the need to say it? Do you think to be better than others? I do not need your prayers to make me change my mind, keep it to yourselves.

It's 1 of many tacit slights hellfires like to use. A few more are:

-"love the sinner, hate the sin"
-"I'm not judging you. Only God can do that"
-"It's never to late to find Jesus"

But those who spew this kind of nonsense are too dull to realize that anyone with an IQ above room temperature will see right through it.

My suggestion, next time a Christian says they'll pray for you tell them to save it and pray for their own soul. They need it more than you.

Not all Christians say that. I'm very religious and I'm a Born-Again. But I don't say that. Some Christians just want others to feel good because we love praying and worshiping b.c it makes us feel comforted.

I like spreading the word of my religion around but I wouldn't make others feel bad for having their own beliefs. People are allowed to have their own opinion. Some people don't realize that.

Wow! You are a walking contradiction; if you do not agree with their belief then why let it bother you? I think you feel something but are hesitant to believe.
Here is my reasoning. I don't like watermelon;however, people still offer me watermelon when I go to cookouts. I say, "no thankyou, I don't like watermelon". Then someone else usually says, "why don't you like watermelon? That's Un-American". Then I say, "because I don't like the texture and flavor in my mouth".
You see, I know what I like and I know what I don't like. You, on the otherhand, are unsure of what you know. What if God is real? What if those "prayers" actually cause me to want a change in my life?
I never liked Sushi until I tried it. I was afraid to try it because other people said that it was gross. My daughter pleaded with me to try it. She knew how to prepare the Sushi and it was Awesome!
Think this question- What if God is real? Then what?

I am a Christian, and have quite a few atheist friends, as well as friends who are non-Christian. I'm not threatened by their unbelief, and don't attempt proselytizing them. I don't believe in forcing my religious beliefs upon others. As for praying for people, I'll generally only do that if they specifically ask me to do so. To respond to a statement of unbelief by saying, "I'll pray for you" comes off as condescending.

Because some of us do not follow Jesus' instruction in Matthew 6:1-8. We are supposed to keep our prayers between themselves and God. Those who make their prayers public do so to seek human recognition for their efforts and not God's recognition, and therefore God pays them little heed.

Part of me is imagining that this response might be even more annoying than telling you that I'm praying for you. Not meant to be... sorry.

I KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL. For example when I tell people that I am atheist, the first thing they say is why? and Then they say I will pray for you. That just makes me say "Um... That is exactly why I am an atheist."

Maybe it makes them feel they have some control over whatever the situation is. Who knows?

You could respond "thanks, I'll perform a ritual/spell for you."

Anyway, maybe it's because they believe they are "saved" and because if you aren't "saved" you will burn in hell for all eternity and they want you to be in heaven with them after death.

Yes, it's ridiculous, but don't get irritated about it.
