Most of you are in an area that actualy HS public transportation. There are many of us who do not have access to public transport of any sort. We live in extremely rural areas and, out of sheer necessity, we have NO choice but to depend on our own private transportation. I think that those who are able to use Public Transportation SHOULD make use of it. It is more economical, safer, and allows you to do other things while you are on your way to where ever it is that you need to go. Not only that, it lowers overcrowding on the roads and highways, eliminating traffic jams, which are an enormous waste of fuel and money. The amount of fuel that would be saved by everyone using public transportation to get to work or school just 2 days a week would reduce fuel consumption by a bilion barrels of oil a year. Eliminate the wear and tear on our roads and highways enormously, saving the taxpayers enormous costs of maintenance of the infrastructure, and reduce the stress that many peopl;e experience while stuck in traffic jams. It would even reduce the fuel costs for those of us who simply have NO choice but to use private transport.

It depends on the city that you live in. If its a major city, with a subway/metro rail, then definitely its worth it - you can avoid rush hour traffic on the highways and save yourself a lot of time.
Also the cost of gas is getting ridiculous, its in around 3.00 sometimes as high as 3.25 a gallon, and that can obviously add up pretty quickly if you have a daily commute, so in that regards public transportation is very economical as well.
The downside is that in certain cities there's a, shall we say, patronage/maintenance issue (in other words there's crazy lunatics on it, and they don't clean it enough)

Overall, the best I've seen is the system in Chicago. You can ride trains and buses with the same easy-to-use swipe card. And they run frequently. I recently visited that area for a weekend and was amazed at how easy it was to get around without a car, both in the city and suburbs.
The worst is Detroit, hands down. It's virtually non-existent. The buses are a joke, and the rail system is nothing more than a loop circling the downtown area.

Not as bad as I thought it would be. It's cheaper than gas. I don't like people try selling me socks and dish rags on my way home when I'm trying to enjoy my ride. I don't think people that are impaired should be allowed to ride. I mean a person gets so high that he falls out of his seat, hits the floor of the bus and pools of blood just come pouring out of his mouth... Just to be told that he's just high and he'll be alright but then we have to wait for another bus because of the unsanitary blood. That sucks. Oh Chicago by the way.

Varies from country to country, city to city. I'm currently living in Prague, which has fantastic public trransport system. A Metro system, huge tram network, and bus services, all of which is prompt & reliable - and cheap! Thumbs up!
