She is prone to ear problems, and it rains a lot here. I see that the more often you can walk your dog the better. And don't suggest a hat because it would be shedded in an instant. I can hold the umbrella over her, but I look stupid and it's difficult. What do you think?

Yeah, maybe we could get some stylish coat and learn to wear it. Or maybe we COULD learn to wear a hat... I need to get one and have a practice fitting...

Absolutely. The GSD is a working dog and has been selectively bred to be outside. The course outer fur together with the soft inner fur keeps the skin dry. If water is getting in their ear they will point them in another direction or fold them back. They enjoy the time with you and need the exercise and would be depressed if you skipped their walk due to a little rain.

Dogs are not people and treating them like they are is unsettling to them.

Get a harness and a clip-on umbrella for the dog.

I can't imagine why a shepherd would be vulnerable to rain as they are sheep herding dogs who can actually live outdoors in all the elements. But if you are concerned about water falling into your dog's ears, you should get one of those little umbrellas that clip on and put it on your dog's collar or harness. If you introduce this as a part of putting on the harness or collar, it shouldn't be a problem.

I have a cocker spaniel and she is very prone to ear problems too. I dont see how rain could hurt, but you should ask a vetrinarian about proper ways to clean your dogs ears.

that's usually a be counted of breeding and coaching. flow to a good breeder that in basic terms breeds canines with finished wellness sorting out and that have a conformation or working call. they might desire to be kinfolk raised somewhat than kennel and with a bit of luck already started out on socialization and potty coaching. I additionally like English Mastiffs in case you elect for a canines it is intimidating and conserving yet no longer aggressive. discover some stable obedience training as great breed doggies improve very quickly and you desire to be on top of issues from the initiating i in my view do no longer propose ever beating your canines it would desire to reason issues that would take a whilst to floor. He could be nice yet why possibility it with a canines that is going to be 130lbs or extra. I wager your national kennel club has a hyperlink to community coaching golf equipment.

No, it is not okay to walk your dog in the rain. I understand that dogs, especially German Shepards, have enough hair to protect themselves, but once the hair gets wet, they get REALLY cold, and are able to get sick. I just recently bought a raincoat with a hat attached to it for my chihuahua and my pit bull. I have tried it out and walked them both with the raincoats on and they worked marvelous... I brought both of the dogs inside and neither of them were wet, and they both got an exercise too. I highly recommed you buying a raincoat for your beloved German Sheperd. =) I bought mine at my local Petsmart.

don't walk her in the rain then. if too much water gets into her ear, it might cause an infection. But if you really need to walk her, make or buy a large doggy coat and put it over her whole body and head. make sure it covers the ears. i know it'll be ugly, but it's your only hope.

Eh, dont listen to them. It is ok as long as you put large cotton balls down in its ears. Not too far obviously but enough to where its in there and covering. It is not ok for water to get in its ears...but as long as you use proper precautions it should be fine. I mean they play in water and get baths right?? I used to be a dog groomer and we put the cotton in their ears. Just only do it if you have too (walk in the rain)
