Would you rather believe in God and find out that He doesn't exist, or not believe in Him and find out that He does?

Think about it. And be open-minded. I know some of you are going to think, "Well, he doesn't exist, it doesn't matter," or something like that.

But really give it some thought. If you were to not believe in Him, and then find out that He really does exist...?

I would rather believe in God and be wrong. I much prefer knowing my life has a purpose and a reason than to think I'm just a random gathering of atoms.

But this is a bit of a cow's opinion since He does exist, now isn't it? :)

Well, I would rather believe in God and find out he does not exist. In this case, I live my life with the hope for the life beyond this. If God doesn't exist, I'll never know, and at least I'll die peacefully because I'll believe that it's true.

(The way I see it, a just God would give people what they deserve. When you talk about God being just, consider God as a judge. A truly just judge will give you the punishment you deserve when you commit a crime.)

(Plus, the evidence of God is all around you. That is more than enough to believe in God. Science can't explain how life started.)

I just answered something similar to this...

If, for some reason, I discovered that the christian god does exist, it has no basis for a grudge. An omnipotent being that demands worship, yet leaves no true, verifible evidence, would be forced to accept that disbelief is likely.

Add to this, the fact that, if the bible is to be believed, the only difference between god and man is man's mortality. By gaining the knowledge of good and evil, man became like gods (by yahweh's own words...the third chapter of genesis). According to the myth, man becomes immortal at the moment of death, and thus becomes gods equal. With equal footing, there can be no judgement, nor fear of retribution.

Of course this is all hypothetical...

I would rather not believe in him and find out that he does exist. I can live a moral life by understanding natural law-God, if he exists, obviously chose to make the world in accordance with naturalism and to hide his existence. A just God would not hold it against me that I did not believe in him.

First of all i don't for a moment believe this would happen.
I would rather believe in god and find out i was wrong , simply because of the genuine friends and family life , clean living and free from all the pains worldly people stab themselves with.
Like STDs , drugs, abortions , and so on. All this world with all it's temporary pleasures can not offer any reward as good as following a christian life style.

On the other hand the bible says ...This means life the taking in knowledge of me...so to be non christian and wrong would mostly mean death

God does exist. The choice is whether to believe or not.

Pascals wager again *yawn*.
I choose to live my life along the lines of the atheists wager.

You should live your life and try to make the world a better place for your being in it, whether or not you believe in God. If there is no God, you have lost nothing and will be remembered fondly by those you left behind. If there is a benevolent God, he may judge you on your merits coupled with your commitments, and not just on whether or not you believed in him.[5]

" believe in God and find out that He doesn't exist,"

Well, according to St Paul:
"If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all men most to be pitied" 1 Cor 15:19.

So he doesn't buy Pascal's wager either!
I wonder, given this view in the bible, how it ever came to be proposed?
(edit: three (Christian?) people so far seem to discount Paul's biblical view of the issue!)

Oh yes, if the god of the bible exists, and I've decided wrongly about that, it seems I'm going to hell. I didn't choose atheism lightly, or out of ignorance of the bible. But because, to the best of my honest judgement, it's what's true.
