my question is did i make the right choice between the 4053tsw .40 smith and wesson? i could have purchased the ruger .45? i went for reliability and concealability. smith and wesson is reliable, hands down and is asthetically pleasing haha but so is the ruger in looks, very similar to a glock. i bought the gun used for $350.00 did i get a good deal and did i make the right choice???

I would have made the same choice as you. the price is about right, I disagree about smith being a more reliable though when it comes to semi-autos, my experience is that the smiths are accurate, great factory triggers but always get sent back for repair (at least smith has a kick *** warranty, customer service sucks but they've always fixed anything that came up). I think the smiths feel better in the hand and don't have the rattles of the ruger and are more accurate, not to mention the I find the flat trajectory of the .40 to be more accurate than the .45 and the rounds cheaper.
smiths are decent gun, when it comes to a combat piece that has to be relied upon though they just aren't a sig sauer, h&k or 9mm glock.

smiths performance center products are another matter entirely, I too drool over the 952 and I have a 52, ammo is expensive (and its hard to find full wadcutters hot enough to cycle the slide, winchester super x are the best so far) and parts are hard to find but the slide moves like butter, less than 1/8 " trigger travel, 3 lbs pull with no over travel and the dry fire safety makes for a great training gun for people with a flinch. not to mention the single hole groups.

As long as the gun is mechanically sound. Those SW pistols (3rd gen style) are very, very expensive now. You got a deal, even though I would have preferred a Ruger P90 before a SW TSW. The only SW autos I like (and cannot afford) are the 952 (9mm match-grade target), 52 (original 38SPl wadcutter parent of the 952), and the 41 (.22lr match-grade).

I have a S&W and a Ruger, between the two, the Smith! You did great, nothing wrong with your choice.

Either one is a good choice; your choice of 40 instead of 45acp was a bad choice as the 40 is a great leap backwards. You can buy 45acp ammo much cheaper, so you can do more shooting and have a little fun, and your proficiency is enhanced. The 40 is sort of neither fish nor fowl.
