A sore throat is discomfort, pain, or scratchiness in the throat. A sore throat often makes it painful to swallow. With a sore throat, sometimes the tonsils or surrounding parts of the throat are inflamed.

Tonsillectomy is usually indicated for chronic tonsillitis and freq strep throats. Before i had my tonsils and adenoids taken out; I suffered freq Pharyngitis ( sore throat making it difficult to swallow) and Larnygitis( hoarse voice) I went thru a miserable childhood avoiding any ice cold drinks. With my chronic tonsilitis, I had high fevers and the chills; halitosis;
ear aches; and difficulty in swallowing. The throat gets inflammed, irritated and swollen. .

Finally at the old age of 26, I underwent Tonsillectomy. The recovery phase from my surgery took a long time. I was in constant pain. My throat was sore. However, the quality of my life greatly improved. I'm greatly indebted to the surgeon who helped me. He remarked that my tonsils were so big; i must have suffered while growing up. I'm sure, you're going thru the same thing.

Poss Causes :

Breathing through the mouth (can cause drying and irritation of the throat)
Common cold
Viral pharyngitis
Influenza
Strep throat (caused by streptococcal bacteria)
Infectious mononucleosis
Fish, chicken bone, or other foreign substance stuck in the throat. (For emergency actions, see choking child or adult or CPR)
Endotracheal intubation (tube insertion)
Surgery such as tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy

Most sore throats are soon over. In the meantime, the following remedies may help:

1)Drink warm liquids. Honey or lemon tea is a time-tested remedy.

2)Gargle several times a day with warm salt water. (1/2 tsp of salt in 1 cup water. or Hydrgoen Peroxide.

3)Cold liquids or popsicles help some sore throats.

4)Sucking on hard candies or throat lozenges can be very soothing, because it increases saliva production. This is often as effective as more expensive remedies.

5)Use a cool-mist vaporizer or humidifier to moisten and sooth a dry and painful throat.

6)Try over-the-counter pain medications, such as acetaminophen.

Natural remedies I employed were swabbing the area with soothing Vick Vaporub, chloramphenicol or Orajel and sucking on sore throat lozenges with honey and menthol eucalyptus.

Antibiotics are usually NOT wise in the absence of a positive strep test or throat culture.

It's just a throat infection. I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago, where, I thought it had been a sore throat, but it lasted for 3 weeks. Then I finally told my dad about it and he took me to the doctors. They told me it was a type of virius and throat infection. They prescribed bayer aspirin and amoxicilin to get rid of it. When I had the throat infection, it hurt to talk, laugh, and cough, which made me feel even worse.

You can still have a throat infection without tonsils and It's also possible for your tonsils to grow back.

I am no doctor....You need to go to someone different and insist that it is not a cold. It could be strep throat. But dont take my word for it.
