I'm about to get baptized, I'm 17, and I'm wondering if you'res supposed to be a "goody goody" after it, isn't it human nature to sin, and that's why you ask for salvation because you know only Christ can forgive your sins?

Well, if you're being baptized at this mature age, I'd think you wouldn't do it unless you wanted to try to follow your savior. However, this doesn't mean you won't sin again. It doesn't even mean that you won't someday deny your faith and become a vicious criminal. These things have been known to happen. Anybody is capable of these things. That is why we need a savior.
Being "goody goody" isn't the same as being a disciple of Jesus. Jesus wasn't "goody goody." He upheld the truth and it wasn't always pleasant. Not everything he does for us is always pleasant to us either, at the time. But in the end, we'll be more than glad.
Oh yeah. I think I was baptized as an infant, but there was some question about the validity of the baptism, so I was baptized again at 7 years. I've always been glad that I can remember my baptism, though theoretically I favor infant baptism.

Wow. Congrats on getting baptized. =)

I was baptized at 11, and then again at 22.

It really has nothing to do with being a "goody goody". When you repent and accept Christ, you are saved. Being baptized is a public declaration of that. It symbolizes dying with Christ and being raised up with Him. I would suggest spending some time studying the book of Romans. It pretty much explains it. There is alot there though. Pray and ask God for understanding, He is faithful.

Best wishes and many blessings =)

I was baptized as an infant. My mother couldn't get me baptized fast enough. She was terrified that something would happen to me before I got baptized, and she was very anxious about getting it done as quickly as possible. She told me later that she also secretly baptized me herself, because she was getting freaked out waiting on the priest. As for being a goody-goody after your baptism, you're expected to live up to your baptismal vows (if your denomination uses them), but people do understand that you're still human, and can make mistakes. Don't worry too much about it. We don't automatically turn into angels after baptism, and are still quite capable of sin. We're expected to resist sin as much as possible, but everyone has moments of slipping.

i was 15. I think it would have been a little bit soon becuase i was in the church im going to now when i was like 5 but stopped going because of my moms work schedule but then i started going again and loved it!!! and as for being a goody goody no one is perfect. everything is going to mess up at times you cant stop that just ask for forgiveness. I mean you shouldnt go around saying well i can do this n then just ask for forgiveness kind of thing. you should try your hardest to live for God.

I was baptized at 17 and didn't have a true relationship with Jesus Christ. I continued doing things that I thought were fun but in actuality were ruining my life. Drinking and partying sound fun, but they truly have a negative impact on your life.

I began a true relationship with Jesus Christ around 26 and was baptized again at 32. Once I began a real walk with Jesus, I found out that there is freedom with Jesus not burdens. The fulfillment I had been looking for in partying was now replaced with Jesus.

As for being a "goody goody", the Christian men I hang out with are real men in every way. We strive for righteousness in our lives (even though we fail occasionally). Jesus wants us to live adventurously and with passion. We don't have to be drunk to enjoy life to the fullest.

I am Chaldean.... Chaldean is a catholic who comes from Iraq ( my parents are born in Iraq I was born in the U.S) and we are strong Catholics so we believe in Baptizing children when they really young and I was honeslty 7 months when I got baptized and many get baptized starting from 6 months. We believe one should be saved from original sin as soon as possible.... Being baptized does not mean you have to be a goody good because believe me there's no such thing as a goody good. No one's perfect and it's human nature to sin so don't worry. :-)

I was pretty much new born. Like 5 days old or something like that.
I am not a religious person at all but I do understand that parents get their children baptized asap so that if they die before they are old enough to make the decision to be baptized on their own they are still in the so called "Book of names" and will be allowed into heaven then.
You are personally supposed to get baptized again once you are old enough to make that decision from what I understand.
I personally want nothing to do with a God that has to have your name in a book in order to accept you.
To each their own I guess.
Oh BTW, Only you can forgive your sins. You sound like you are being baptized to please someone else. If you really want this go for it but if you are doing it for someone else I suggest you think about this some more.
You are doing something that means commitment to something. Commitment should not be taken lightly. You should be sure you are ready to commit to something before pledging allegiance to that something.
While not religious myself, Being a hypocrite is worse than being any sort of sinner.

I was probably only a few days old for my baptism. Many years later I found out what being baptized under a covenant of grace means, and my parents did the right thing. Sometimes I even wonder if they knew that they were doing the right thing.

8 for me, that's about the age that a kid really understands right from wrong, any age before that and you really don;t understand what sinning. Babies shouldn't be baptized, because they have no sin, Adam will be punished for his own sin. Baptism is to lay down your old life an start a new one, to "wash away your sins" and begin again, that's why they call it born again, because when you are baptized you have no sin like a baby or little child. But of course everyone sins and so you need a means of having a type of re-baptism, that's why Jesus instituted the Sacrament.
