Honestly, coming from an adult that was diagnosed, as ADHD as a child and doped up on ritalin, adderall, adderall xr, dexedrine and strattera (not all at once) my mother came to realize that these doctors are using kids as human ginnie pigs and she took me off.
These so called doctors dope these kids on all of these medication because A) they want to make money off of them, B) because the kids teacher(s) try to bully the kids mother by saying that their kid is bouncing off the wall in school and is disrupting the studies of other students and need to be on it. C) Because some parents put their kids on them to collect a SSI check, or to get the drugs and sell them. If you hadn't realized it yet most of those medications are narcotics that is why they are regulated by the DEA. That's right folks the government bans cocaine because it is a narcotic, but allows these legal narcotics to be given to your children.
The moral of the story is kids by nature are suppose to be a bit hyper, if they are not what do we call them depressed, lazy, obese then they put your kid on another group of med called stimulants or uppers. Don't let these people dope your kids up if you don't feel he needs it.
Option: Change his diet, limit his intake of sugar which includes juices. Discipline while they are young makes it easy to deal with them when they get older.

The first drug my child was put on was Adderall. We so a huge increase in mood swings, aggression and anger. The medication often make a person feel agitated, shaky and out of control. We also experienced difficulty with extended release versions of this and Ritalin. I did my own research based on the manufacturing of the drugs and found out that the way the medication works is not always beneficial to some patients. My son has a low tolerance for medication and easily has symptoms even to antibiotics. When given extended release the dosage that is first released word well as it only gave out a small percentage of the drug immediately. It wasn't until the other parts started disintegrating that we would see signs of problems. What has worked well for us has been using regular ritalin on him. He's like night and day without it. Of course you have to make sure the med dosage is right for them and it has to be given every 4 hours to ensure theres not too much down time between dosages. We also don't give the med till after he's eaten as it can have a major affect on their appetite. I often don't give him late afternoon dosage unless we have something concrete he's got to do like cub scouts.

I think you mean ADHD Attention deficit hearing disorder. Try an occupational therapist. Their focus is helping your child succeed in their environment- school and social skills. Your pediatrician should be able to recommend a good one for you. They spend lots of one on one with your child and can advise you more appropriately than others.
