the prescription had expried a month before I had the baby. Does anyone know why prescriptions expire? Would it be dangerous to take the pills? They were $120 and I have 90 of them. I don't want to waste them. Please someone give me a clue. Please don't be rude.

The certain ingredients in any medicine has their time frame of being effective and potent. When it expires, it means it starts to loose its potent properties and could not give what actions are expected out of it, in fact there is also possibility that it will yield unfavorable effects instead.

Anyway, though it may be not dangerous to take the pills, it won't be good at all to any pregnant woman. You need to have a healthy and balanced nutritional diet instead, for nourishment of both of you - yourself and someone in your womb. Your body during pregnancy has many changes that would require more nutritional values. You do not need to have any diet pills at this stage.

Well, I will tell you (if it is your first pregnancy) the possibility of having your appetite altered during the first few months. In fact, many women during that stage face problems with regards to eating and expect weight loss which can be regained later as the pregnancy progresses. You have to be very thankful if you could eat well.

Anyway, the rule of the thumb is to avoid taking any pills during pregnancy except when you are really in need of them. In that case, you must have prescription from your doctor.

The $120 pills you have now won't compensate if your baby will be harmed if you insist to take them. Anyway, try to ask the refiller if it would be possible to return your pills . (I really have no idea on that though). Another option would be to try to ask your friends who possibly would be interested to have diet prescriptions.

Anyway, you need to take care of yourself and your unborn baby. Congratulations, by the way!

Many people do not think about medications having an expiration date, but the fact is, medications expire much in the same way that food expires. There are people who wouldn’t consider drinking milk just one day after the expiration date, but the same people are often unaware that their medicine cabinets contain expired products. All medications, prescription and over-the-counter drugs, have expiration dates and should be discarded when expired.
Expired medications are not always dangerous, but they can become weak and possibly ineffective after the “use by” date. Expired medicine in pill and liquid form often changes in color and consistency. Liquids can separate and pills deteriorate over time. These changes are obvious, but sometimes medication appears to be fresh when in fact it has been compromised by time and improper storage

Every medicine comes with its shelf life. Over a period of time, the medicines deteriorate and may not be suitable for their intended use. This time is determined by the manufacturer after a thorough research. The medicines, after their expiry, may become either ineffective or unsafe for consumption due to the chemical/ physical changes. To be on safer side, we should not consume the expired medicines.
