I live in an apartment, and have a cockatiel who get extremely loud when she wants my attention. I don't have problems with her being loud in the morning, its throughout the day. Covering her cage doesn't work, it just frustrates her and makes her scream louder. I know she is screaming for my attention, but my roommate says she does it all day while I'm at work, help?

try a fruit bar treat, millet spray, or a cuddle bone. mine really loved those things. kept him busy for quite a while. try to leave a radio on low. it might make her feel like you are still there and keep her quiet.

Maybe you should get her a mate. She is probably frustrated by being alone. Let her come out of the cage every now and then. play soft music this might calm her down and talk to her softly like if she was a baby. I used to have birds in my apt and that is what I used to do to them. We got along great, but then again it was a pair. I strongly suggest a mate. Poor baby she needs a boyfriend. Check out the internet, you will find some help there.

My African grey did this too- I finally bought a cd of birds in the wild. He LOVED it- and it actually didn't always quiet him, it made him even more social. Finally, I bought him a mate, Clementine, the love of his life. He is very social now, and together they get loud sometimes, but for the most part- they've settled down.
Try finding a tape or cd of bird songs... or playing the tv for her while you away... or take the splurge, and get her a mate.

make sure your bird has plenty of activity toys and
a playmate if possible.
Do not reward loud behavior, but pay as much attention to him as possible, especially when he is being nice and quiet.
Birds can develop worse problems than noise if they are bored or become depressed, so make sure there is plenty to keep his interest.

maybe you should have thought about that before buying the cockatiel. there really isn't anything to do except to spend time with her.

give it a bit of fruit or a little bit of bread for it to destroy it allways amuses my ones. Also you can get chews for them in the shops and millets which keep them amused.
