how long does it take to get results back?

I work in a free standing facility in Northern California. If an exam is done by about 4:00 pm, we have the written report faxed to the referring doctor by 9:00 am the next day. If we find something suspicious, my radiologist calls the referring doctor within about an hour of the actual exam. 24-48 hours is the normal turn around time for normal findings. How long it takes your doctor's office to inform you of the results is anyones guess.....

This depends entirely on your local health service.

Once the mammogram and ultrasound are done, the pictures are examined by a specialist in the field who then makes a report.

There can be delays in the specialist finding time to see your films, there can be delays in getting reports typed, there can be delays in getting reports to your Dr to pass on to you.

If all goes exceptionally well and there is reason to believe there is a need to act swiftly, you could get results the same day! In practice, a week is reasonable.

When I had a lump, believed to be a cyst, the tests were done on Thursday and my phone was ringing at 8.30am Monday to get me in for results - they had found cancer, and that was in a remote rural area!

Follow up mammograms and ultrasounds for my annual check-ups post treatment usually need to be done 10 days before my appointment to ensure my oncologist has teh results in time.
