Sometimes it's best to not divert the way someone is feeling, but to help them express it in a healthier manner.
Everyone gets angry-- it's part of being a person. But it's HOW you choose to express it that can really show who you are. Instead of trying to change someone else's feelings, why not help them express it in a way that shows you understand where they are coming from, and that you are genuinely interested in helping them? If anything, that's what allows them to become happy.

You can't make anybody happy, except maybe yourself.
If they're angry with you, and they're right, apologize and make amends. If they're wrong, don't bother. Make yourself happy instead.
If they're angry with somebody else and are open to what you say, talk to them. Maybe you can help. If they're not open, leave them to figure it out themselves.

You can't make people happy. Happiness comes from within.
