My cuticles are constantly dry and peeling. I put on hand lotion several times a day and use one that does not have alcohol in it. I drink plenty of water and even did a detox months ago. My nails were looking really great for that short period of time, but then went right back to being dry. If I don't use Sally Hansen's Vitamin E oil every night, they get really bad. Any suggestions, or does anyone know if one thing in particular causes this?

I suffer from this problem, but in my case it's because my job requires me to wash my hands a lot. But ordinary cleaning products do it just as well. The dermatolgist told me that the cuticles simply are more sensitive to drying, as the oil that lubricates the rest of the skin don't exist for cuticles. And the cuticle that is actually on your nail is already dead skin to boot. The only things I've found that help is either the vitamin e oil or almond oil. You don't have to use Sally Hansen's unless you just find it more convenient. I use the generic vitamin E capsules. Just poke a hole in one end, and squeeze a drop out per finger, and rub it in. Once a week I really slather my fingers in cocoa butter and put on a pair of latex gloves, then I read for about half an hour while it soaks in. I've also had to become very conscientous about wearing gloves to do any sort of cleaning, the dishes, etc. And I get a manicure every other week. That helps me keep them trimmed and neat, and helps avoid the cracking and bleeding problems I used to have. Hope some of this helps.

Hmmm! Did you try Vaseline? Just a slight smear around each fingernail, perhaps put on when you are ready to sleep at night. It has really helped mine, but then, they aren't so bad.
