What do they do when you have to have a physical?

I'm just wondering if they get all down into your business. My form just says Eyes Ears Nose etc. It doesn't say anything about a drug test or anything so I am just wondering if I just get checked for what's on the form.

It depends on how old you are and what kind of physical you are getting. If it is a required physical for work, they will just check your basic vitals and make sure you have no obvious problems. If you are a pre-teen or teenager, the physical will be a bit more extensive, and include questions about your lifestyle - exercise, sexual activity, drinking and smoking, etc.

You will almost never experience anything invasive in a physical unless it includes a pap smear (If you're getting one, you can read all about it in the Women's health section, since people ask about it every 5 minutes). You might get a shot if you are due for one. Everything else is the standard doctor's visit stuff - checking breathing, blood pressure, reflexes, etc. A physical is the perfect time to ask your doctor questions about your health.

It very much depends on your age, previous medical and surgical history, your family history etc ..
It will also depend on why you are going for a medical - routine, for specific job, health insurance offer etc.
As a very basic you can expect to have your
1. blood pressure checked,
2. your lungs listened to,
3. an ECG (maybe)
4. Height / weight
and a whole lot of questions abut your bowel / bladder habits, diet, alcohol / drug / tobacco use etc.
You may have some blood tests taken - cholesterol, routine kidney functions, sometime specific cancer markers.

Good luck - they aren't that bad!

To ease your fears. Have your mother with you during the
physical exam. They are checking you for your health and are
not going to do a cavity search. If they are to draw any blood.
It will be for medical conditions and not for drugs. You will not
be tested for HIV unless you request it yourself, and sign a
consent form. You can call the doctors office to ask about
this. sometimes, they want you to fast, if they are going to do
any blood to test your blood sugar. And if you don't cry. they
may let you have a sucker on the way out. :-})-{>~ MD

What kind of physical?
As long as it is for just ENT Dr., then they will probably just check your ears, look at your eyes, tonsils, in your nose, adnoids, and of course throat. Should be no blood drawn.
