the correct rating would be 140mm (4x35), however they tend to rate them now as being the wide (32 in this case) then times that by 4

If you've read my answer by now, you have the information you are looking for. The "times power" of the optical zoom has no bearing at all on the crop factor, as you will see from reading my other answer.

Since we know the wide angle end of your lens is 32 mm (equiv), if it is 4X, we would know that the tele end is 128 mm, just by multiplying 32 x 4 = 128.

Optical is good because it is real zoom. Digital only makes the picture smaller so things in it look bigger.
