Alcohol is known to be toxic and to kill brain cells.

Marijuana suppresses nerve cells and brain function. The smoke may contain cancer causing agents, but that hasn't been proven or even studied.

Marijuana is a illegal substance so studying it would be illegal, since the mere possession of it is a crime. It has been made illegal by international treaty so legalizing it won't be easy, you have to get the other countries the signed the treaty to agree. Or you have to draw up a new treaty, which will have to be reviewed by the Senate. So we will probably never know the full dangers of smoking weed.

Alcohol should be illegal, but the attempt to do so was less successful than the 55 mph speed limit or the current enforcement on marijuana. Just last month a field of it was discovered growing near the Dallas DEA office, and since then in 3 weeks 3 more fields have been discovered in the Dallas area. Well cultivated fields in hardly traveled areas that could only be seen by air.

Alcohol is, in my opinion. People are more violent on alcohol than they are on pot. Alcohol is more harmful to your body overall. I have known people who have died of alcoholism but never one that died from simply smoking marijuana.
