Christians like to say "If you were wrong you go to hell, but if I were wrong then what did I loose?"
Do you Christians use this statement to make you feel less vulnerable and insecure?
Are you trying to confirm yourself that you are not being brainwashed?
If you are so sure about your beliefs then why even come up with that statement. It means that you Christians have doubts in your heart, therefore you need some sort of assurement that you did not believe your religion in cost of something.
"IF I were WRONG". You see that you say 'IF", which means that you are open to possiblities of you being "WRONG".
I would never say, "IF I happened to be gay". Because I am 100% sure I am not, so if you Christians say the word "IF" you are not a 100% sure of your beliefs. If you are not even sure of yourself then why do try to rant about how great God is? Christians clear your doubts before speaking about your beliefs please. Your statement just disclaimed you.

Why do you have such hatred and resentment towards Christians? Some Christians may say this, "if your wrong, you will spend eternity in hell, if I'm wrong, so be it".

You actually have a problem with that statement? It doesn't disclaim anything. It is simply stating that if you choose not to believe, and your wrong, according to our bible, that means one thing. Some Christians put "if I'm wrong what did I loose" in the statement, simply because they feel that it might get through to some of you.

Think about it. If God doesn't exist, no one wins. You just die, that's it, the end. But since I believe He does exist, as all Christians do, we do believe that there is an after life. If you choose to go into eternity, the way that you want to, good for you. I believe there will be a consequence for that choice. And I would have to say, that is at least what 50% of the Christians that make that statement are refering. Not that they doubt, not at all. That statement really should make you want to think things over a bit, before you enter death.

It makes no one feel insecure, thats what the question is apparently bringing you.

I'm happy that you feel strongly about what you believe. I pray that you would at least take an honest effort and look into that of what you apparently know very little if anything about.

God Bless

Max: I'm a Christian and I don't believe, that a person goes to an ever-burning place called "hell" when you or I die. Do the research in the Bible and you will find that there is no such place as a "hell" fire. Check it out. Not are only Christians wrong for telling people they are going to burn, Christians, who promote this come across as both, arrogant [spiritual pride] and very condescending - two things that Jesus Christ dislikes in His human creation. As a Christian myself, I have seen many versions of the "Christian Suicidal Statement" . The word "IF" is so small and has a lot of meaning.

Having it both ways ?
When I first met my future partner;s family we had lengthy bible sessions over afternoon tea. Mainly for my benefit I suspect because as a Methodist I was a Spawn of Satan. This was before Gwenneth and I purchased a house and lived together.
You may imagine the rest.

Many religions are based on great ideals. You might say the same for communism. IT IS HUMANITY THAT PUTS BLOWFLIES IN THE CREAM DISH.

As a Buddhist, we believe that you take a rebirth that isn't too auspicious for cutting this precious human life short. It's your mind that goes on and a mind stuck in self-hate doesn't fare well unless you learn to rise above it with compassion for yourself. _()_

I speak with Spirit of God in me and I assure you if you do not put your faith in Jesus and turn from your sin then you will be eternally condemned. Is that more like what you want. Christians use the "if" not because they have doubts but for arguments sake that the atheist view has no eternal weight, so who cares. God bless.

Ah you are disputing Pascal's Wager... Look you guys don't like it when we say Jesus Christ is the only way to the Father/ Heaven... so we try to soften the blow by giving you a rational statement to think about and you try to say we aren't 100% sure...

Well we can't win "IF" we make statement's like You need to accept Jesus Christ to be with God and live in Heaven when you die, and the other blessings that are opened up to us when we accept Jesus - we are arrogant

When we make "IF" statements we aren't 100% sure...

I don't like this, it's a no win I think I will give up now...

"If you were wrong you go to hell, but if I were wrong then what did I loose?"

The statement is for the non-believers benefit. The point of having that type of discussion is to win you over. Plugging my ears and saying "you're wrong, you're wrong, you're wrong" is not going to help. It's like playing devils advocate, lol

Wow....you really feel strongly about this. I must confess, I HAVE used this statement. I do not now, nor do I plan to doubt, however.

So....IF I have offended you in any way...I apologize. Thanks for making me examine how I express myself. I will attempt to communicate more effectively next time!

Last time I checked I NEVER made that statement.

Your statement tries to prove I'm wrong, but I'm perfectly secure in my faith and I've NEVER said If anything!

I am Catholic, and there is NOTHING wrong with that!

please it's how anyone express there point "if" this was this way or "if it was that way...atheists use "if" about God in almost every question they ask like; IF God is love or If Jesus really does exist etc..so does that mean atheist really have doubts in what they believe or do not believe?
