Walk - lots; and drink water - lots of it. You don't have to walk fast - just walk briskly. If you can talk and walk and are breathing somewhat heavier than normal - that's good. If you can't talk (don't have enough breath) - slow down. Avoid hilly areas at first the add very slight hills during the second week. I have been told by some distance runners that once you walk for more than 40 minutes at a time your are burning into your "fat" reserves and starting to build muscle. Seems to be working for me. I have lots more stamina and am up to walking one hour a day (3 miles) - I have not lost weight, but I have toned up some. My stamina is great and I don't become as easily fatigued during the day.

BTW - you probably won't get "in condition" in less than a week, but you will notice a difference in your stamina in just a few days. You also won't lose much weight right away - it take quite a bit of time unless you reduce your calories to less and 2000 a day (male) or less than 1500 a day (female). NEVER eat less than 1200 a day - if you make your body think it's starving, you will lose stamina and you won't lose weight and you won't be in condition.

One more thing - wear sunscreen and sunglasses if you are doing your walking outside.

Good luck!

(PS - I often get the "senior" discounts at restaurants - so nearly anyone can do this)

Ok "jog" at a brisk pase until you fall down. And then the next day when your tired and sore do it again. And keep jogging until the soreness goes away eventually. You can also bike on a stationary or outdoors. But you have to go hard (if you want it in a week).
