I will be awake and only geting local anesthitic and laughing gas. My insurance doesn't cover the whole surgery so I have to be awake. What was your experience? How hard is it to recover?

My wisdom teeth were impacting the adjacent teeth and had to come out early. That meant general anesthetic and surgery. I was sick the first day, from the pain killers I think. But I never felt any pain after day one and was eating pizza after three days. So it was a pretty easy experience over all for me. Couldn't talk much that first day, but I think I was the only one that was unhappy about that.

When my wisdom teeth were pulled they kept me awake for the whole process although i was so drugged up on morphine and laughing gas i had no memory of the entire experience. Although i will say this if they give you what they gave me i hope you don't have anything to hide from whoever is driving you home, from what i heard from people around me at the time i cursed like a sailor (unlike me) and was ready to go to a rave.....
as for the recovery apple sauce and pudding are easy thing to eat during recovery and deff don't drive while on the pain pills they will prob prescribe to you. other then that recovery lasts about a week besides some swelling..... good luck.

You'll do fine and recovery is pretty quick if there are no complications. You are actually better off not being put to sleep.
Be sure not to suck on any straws for at least three days. No carbonated drinks and no vigorous swishing. You don't want to do anything to disturb the clot that's forming over the extraction site or you'll have a dry socket and they are very painful!
Take it easy, eat soft foods and keep the ice packs on. You'll just miss a day or two and be back to normal. Expect a little swelling but you may have none. Good Luck!

Had all 4 cut out at the same time, best thing I ever did. I did not have the room for them. I didn't know way I waited so long to have this done. As far as experience, it really isn't any worse than getting a tooth pulled, a little sore for the first couple of hours. Relax, when it is time, rinse with warm salt water that promotes quick healing. BUT WAIT until your dentist advises you to do so, you want the clot to set up so you don't get dry socket. Get your dentist to give you a mild pain pill for any discomfort you may have afterwards. Good luck!

I was awake when I had mine out and I only had the locals, no laughing gas. I was terrified at first, but it wasn't really that bad. My teeth were already in so they just had to break them and take them out. Once the shots took effect he had all of them out within 20 minutes. I took painkillers for the first two days and was good enough to not have to use any after that. Just follow the doctors orders and you'll be fine. Good luck.

I'm 13 and never had my wisdom teeth pulled, but my brother did and he's 16.
They said it was kind of weird how early it was, but he got it done. He was awake, too, with anesthesia. It was so hard for them to pull the teeth out he had to get stitches and everything. His teeth were huge! He got the stitches taken out a week later.
But he had these severe pain killers and everything. He could only eat soup for like 4 days! He couldn't even talk right.
I'm sorry if I scared you, I was just explaining what happened in a SEVERE case.

I did local and gas. The removal was not that bad and went pretty smoothly. Had problems with bleeding some after words. A little trick if you are a bleeder, wet a tea bad, place it on the socket and gently bite down and hold the bag in place. It won't taste good, but the caffeine will help constrict vessels in the gum, causing the bleeding to slow down.

unfortunately for me, I have unusually long roots. Local anethesia does not work and because of other medical reasons, i can not be put under.

OMG! THE EFFING PAIN!!! The worst pain ever describable. I was in pain for 6months afterwards when I found out that the entire tooth was not extracted!

I'm sure the pain would be even greater than giving labor! Not that I would know that one.

THE HORRIBLE, TERRIBLE, INTENSE PAIN!!!!!!!!!!! I cry just thinking about it and i'm a grown man!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don't need to be asleep!
A couple of Novocaine shot is all you need.

Do yourself a favor... ask the Dentist to write the painkiller prescription before he starts on you. Who ever is accompanying you should fill that prescription while you are having the wisdom teeth pulled out.

When you get in the car, take a pill so it starts to work before your Novocaine starts to wear off!

i was awake during mine.. i had no laughing gas. they just numbed the heck out of me and that was it. i could hear my teeth coming loose out of my gums. sounded like rubber rubbing against itself. the bottom ones hurt more than the top and my face wasn't too swollen. it's not so bad. it hurt after though. good luck!
