Try Craig's List for photographers & some of the other vendors. Book your Hall ASAP though.

It depends on the lifestyle you're looking for. Chicago is a large cosmopolitan city, Austin is smaller and has more of 'college' feel. It's not quite the 'hippy' town it used to be due to all the businesses that have been relocating to Austin in recent years, but it still has that feel in a lot of respects. Chicago has the theatre/fine arts/ballet, and Austin has a lot of live bands and that sort of thing. I live in Austin and I can tell you it is a great city to live in - it's very pretty, the people are friendly and will take the time to help out strangers. And for the most part it's nice and laid-back. There is not a whole lot of crime, and it's a pretty safe city overall. If you're planning to have kids at some point, Austin would be ideal. The drawbacks are that Austin has long, HOT summers. Sometimes it can reach temperatures of 110++. I will admit that I don't like the hot summers very much. But if you can handle it, I would say Austin is a great choice for you. Chicago winters are also brutally cold from what I hear, so that's something to be aware of too.

I'm a professional photographer in the Houston area. Email me and I'll send you info. I'm not booked for that date yet but I feel certain by the next Houston Bridal Extravaganza I will be. Have a great special right now.

You need to book everything you can that has a specific date. It will only get harder. This year for 07/07/07 my studio did two weddings and I turned down at least 10 others. Those kind of dates go fast.

As for recept. halls or wedding venues have you looked in to Butler's Courtyard? It is in League City but SOOO worth the trip. I have a wedding album on my blog www.hollowaysphotography.blogs... if you want to see Butlers. I think it is back in May and called "Nancy wedding at last..." We love Butlers Courtyard; they go way out of their way to make the wedding day extremely special.

Then there are several nice ones out in the Spring/Tomball area. One out on Tomball is Ella's Garden; very nice. (Go to blog and look for "Jennifer and Jared at Ella's Garden". Another in the Spring area is the "Spring Chateau". I don't have one you can look at for that. But it is very nice. Little chapel and a couple of lovely reception halls.

Do not give up. They are out there, you just need to find that special venue that grabs you and takes your breath away.

As for caterers. You might be surprised. Go to your favorite restaurant and see if they will cater. Often restaurants will and their clients don't know it. You just have to ask. And if you are a regular client they know they may just go out of their way for you.

Keep looking but don't wait too late or everything WILL be booked. Do not go with a do it yourself wedding. I.E. student photographers. You will get what you pay for! Weddings are an animal unto themselves and those emotions are not something you can restage.

And don't let people scare you into thinking your date will be bad or a disater. The one we did on 7.7.7 was lovely and beautiful and believe it or not; dispite all the rain in Houston this summer and that day; stress free. (see blog, Denise and Chris)

Good luck. Congratulations and email me! You'll be glad you did!

Photographers - check an arts university in your area. There's plenty of inexpensive students who would probably LOVE the experience...
