It is a shame, and I think God weeps when he sees his children divided in such ways. Much of the division within the Christian faith is due to the corruption of the humans that govern their particular parts of the world.

Example: The Church of England was actually split off of the Catholic faith by Henry the VIII, who was desiring to divorce his wife, Catherine of Aragon and marry Anne Boleyn.

For centuries man has hijacked Religion and created institutions that support their pet beliefs.

For the record, however, many Christian denominations, particularly Evangelical denominations, are beginning to recognize that the only issues that matter are the unwavering doctrines found in the Bible. Progress is being made.

When Christ was on the Earth he established his church. He gave his apostles the authority to govern his church after his death. This authority is called priesthood. This priesthood authority must be passed down by someone who holds it and has the authority to pass it down. (You can't just say that you're a priest and a just start spouting doctrine.) As the apostles were killed that authority was lost on the earth and the church fell nto apostacy. (All of this I have said can be backed up by the Bible, but others will not agree. It is just better if you ask God if it is true.) After this apostacy men were left to try and govern themselves without the divine direction of apostles and prophets. Eventually the doctrine became distorted and the truth started to become lost. As people began to argue about who was right churches began to split from the original Christian church. This is still happening today. Fortunately the true church has been restored upon the Earth with the same organization as in Christ's church. If you are wondering what happened to all of those people without the true church don't worry, God doesn't just throw them in hell. All will have the chance to accept Christ's gospel.

are born-again christians in one of those classes or christianity? Yes they are another break off group that recognized that the church they belonged to didn't have the truth so they attempted to start churches that more closely followed what they thought the true doctrine of Christ is (brief generic version)

That's a good question and I can say that Christian is one thing and catholic is another thing. We're talking about different religions here. Everyone has different views and points to religion. If you know that Catholics were established before the Reformation. That's when Martin Luther protest against the catholics since he believes the catholics were going against the Bible. And so generation after generation more and more people have their own view of things and that is why there are so many denominations out there and so many regions. Its not even funny! It's actually crazy!

Well...
When Christ came to Earth He set up a Church (The Church of Jesus Crist, you might say). In this church He had Apostles (12 of them) at the head (the top 3...Peter James and John...as the chief apostles) of the church. After He died they continued to lead the church. The problem is the persecution thatoccured after He died. If you look in Revelation 1:20 and then in Revelation 2:5, God said He would remove the Church if people didn't repent. Well, they didn't so He removed the Church from the Earth. When it fell away, people tried to form their own churches and stuff. They argued about doctrines and stuff. After a long time, this lead to all the churches we have today. That's why all the different churches exist.

The neat thing is that in 1820, God visited a young man who was trying to find out which church was the true church. He had been seeking for a while and finally one day while he was praying, God himself and Jesus Christ came down to him. He was told that no church was true (because it had fallen away) even though they were all good, they only drew near to God with their lips (they didn't have te true Priesthood, etc.). He then told this young man that He was going to restore the church to the Earth through him and some other people whom He would call. In 1830 He restored the Church again with Apostles and prophets...continuing revelation to help us grow closer to our Father in Heaven and to Christ. The full knowledge of the power of The Atonement was again restored to the Earth!

There is only one Christ. There are many followers of Christ and the religion that came from the following of Christ Jesus was called Christianity. The Catholic church was started. The definition of Catholic is Universal. It was many years after the Catholic church was started that a priest, Martin Luther broke away from the church first and the Protestant Lutheran church was created so the Catholic church or the Pope could not control people who did not agree completely with the Catholic doctrine.
As the Protestant sect of Christianity continued, many variety of Protestant churches, for instance, Methodist off shooted from the Lutheran sect. This is why there are so many Christian sects and they have similar beliefs but vary slightly.

There is indeed only one faith and one baptism, but something happened in the years after the mortal ministry of Jesus Christ called the Great Apostasy. It was actually described in a few places in the New Testament. See 2 Thessalonians 2:2-3 for example, where it describes a "falling away" that will come. In my opinion, it happened pretty much as soon as the original Quorum of the 12 Apostles was lost due to death, say around 60 to 70 A.D. I believe the Christians tried their best to carry on with the office of bishop, or arch-bishop, with Linus in Rome, but that's not the same as having 12 unique witnesses of Jesus Christ who had seen Him in the flesh. I think the true Church of Jesus Christ has to have about 17 characteristics:
1. Jesus Christ Himself has to have organized it.
2. The true church must bear the name of Jesus Christ.
3. The true church must have a foundation of apostles and prophets (see Ephesians 2:20).
4. The true church must have the same organization as Christ's church.
5. The true church must claim divine authority.
6. The true church must not have any paid ministry.
7. The true church should baptize by immersion.
8. The true church should bestow the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands (Acts 8:14-17).
9. The true church must practice divine healing.
10. The true church must teach that God and Jesus are separate and distinct individuals (see John 20:17 for just one example of how Jesus Christ Himself refers to the Father being in a separate place He has to go to).
11. The true church must teach that God and Jesus have bodies of flesh and bone (see Luke 24:39).
12. The officers must be called by God.
13. The true church must claim revelation from God.
14. The true church must be a missionary church.
15. The true church must be a restored church. (see Acts 3:19-21)
16. The true church must practice baptism for the dead. (1 Corinthians 15, 16, 29)
17. By their fruits you will know them. (Matthew 7:20)

Anyone who is born-again, is a Christian. Anyone from any denomination who has accepted Jesus as savior and asked for forgiveness and for Jesus to lead their life, IS BORN AGAIN!

There are so many different denominations because mankind has twisted things to their own desires and hence, made new doctrine and new beliefs that are similar to God's but with their own twist. THAT is how other denominations are created.

Christianity is like people...were all fundamentally the same but we have our skin deep differences. The statement that there is only one right religion seems pointless...the truth is there is only one true god. In my heart I know that if you are seeking actively after God then you are in the right...
