It is a Marlin 336as 30/30. I have found the serial # and it is 02047xxx i heard that I would subtract the 20 from 100 so it means it would be made in 1980. Does this mean the serial number is 47xxx? Or would it be 100 - 02 which would be 1998? And is this model made any more? I couldn't find it on their webpage. And I paid $240 for it. It is about 85-92% and it has a scope. Was this a good price?

The year of manufacture is determined by subtracting the first two numbers of the serial number which translates into the fact your gun was made in 1998. The Model 30AS (Glenfield Series) was discontinued in 2000. As a Gunshop Owner and Professional Appraiser, I checked my Dealer Data bases and came up with the following value:

(95% condition with only minor wear and good to excellent bore = $175.00). The suggested retail was $200.00 for the Rifle ONLY. You can add another $50 to the value for the scope and rings. You didn't pay too much but you did pay the book value for a 1998 Used Rifle.
The model 30AS Marlin was the no nonsense, mass produced version and many were sold over the years. 30-30 Caliber has the distinction of being the most popular and longest lasting (Popularity wise) caliber in United States history.

Marlin 30/30 is one of the best ever made; and, they will last a lifetime. Probably made in 98 by the number. 240 was a very fair price for buyer and seller for this time of year. In september before hunting season it would probably go for 325 or thereabouts.
