i would suggest the chi. it heats up quickly, and maintains the same temperature. its also slim so you can easily straighten close to your head. it keeps hair straight for a looong time, and it takes a very short time to straighten hair with it.
there are some available for about 70 now at like target & bed bath and beyond.

By far "the chi." It is amazing. I had my first one for 3 years and it was still going strong but I dropped it. I had my next one 4 hours later. It doesn't matter what type of hair you have the chi will make it stick straight. And it's got a narrow barrel so it can be used as a styling tool. Even if I get a tad bit of rain on my hair, it's still stays straight! It's expensive but soooo worth it! OH and btw it does NOT cost 400. It runs about $120. Good luck!

I really like the Chi. I noticed the first time that i started to use it after i had gotten my hair cut the next time it took longer for split ends to accur. Do not buy a chi from target or bed bath and beyond or any retail store because you will not get the warrenty i have seen posts telling you to buy it there but if the chi breaks with out being your fault within the first year that you bought it and you bought if from a salon then you get a free one if you send the chi manufature the chi back and they will get you a new one for free. But only if you buy i from a professional salon.

there really isn't THE best flat iron. you really need pay attention to what your hair is like and what it needs. they have really good flat irons that don't cost much. a hotter flat iron is always better.

Definitely CHI. I have annoyingly thick, curly, frizzy hair. I've tried so many different brands of irons to get my hair straight and none of them worked very well. my hair would always poof or frizz. But I decided to buy the CHI and now i'm so glad I did. Its expensive, but it works! (I suggest buying it from ebay, its alot cheaper)

the flat iron i use is "herstyler" once you straighten it, it stays straight, and stays like that untill you take a shower!!, you can also make curls on it too!.
if you are at a mall look for the stand that says corioliss.
hope it helps!
ps. you can only get this at the mall
