About the only thing smoothpoppa2007 said that made any sense was that you should also compare with comparable vehicles like the Highlander, MDX, RX350, Pilot, Pathfinder. Pdgn963 got it right and basically burned poster 1 to the ground with the same quote...difference being he actually read the reviews, consumer reports and edmunds ratings before making a comment from his butt like poster 1. Personally I think the new Santa Fe is better looking then the Veracruz, but if you need that 3rd row and want the quality and features of the Acura/Lexus SUV's then you can't go wrong with the Veracruz or any Hyundai model.

The Veracruz has been reviewed and praised very highly. If I'd been asked this question about any Hyundai product 5 years ago, I'd say look else where. However today, Hyundai deserves respect for turning out decent products with much improved quality at a reasonable price, not to mention a great warranty. I'd still look at the other brands as well. I think you'll find Hyundai has the value, and a decent product to back it up. It may be to soon for this model to determine resale value but you could check the Santa Fe to see how it's held up. Good Luck, and don't listen to the Hyundai bashers, they need to educate themselves and realize that the American cars are the ones not to buy.

The only Hyundai tread I see is that for every 1 ignorant Hyundai basher there are at least 5 happy Hyundai owners ripping the basher a new ******.
I like the Veracruz for the reasons you stated. Not as big and cumbersome as a big SUV but still practical.
Near Lexus quality for thousands less, no downsides from any standpoint.

http://jelmac.wordpress.com/2007/07/13/hyundai-veracruz-beats-lexus-rx350/
accrding to motortrend review, veracruz beats lexus rx350:
"1st Place: Hyundai Veracruz Limited AWD
Does everything well and advances the brand. A nice blend of value and luxury touches.
2nd Place: Lexus RX 350
Still a well-polished piece, if you want everything that goes with the badge. and are willing to pay a bit more for it."
hyundai quality ranking dramatically improved in recent year. (by jd power, consumer reports, Strategic Vision... etc.)
Spec comparion with Lexus RX350:
