As a non religious person I would say the benefits of religion are moral sustainable codes/laws of living. Creating order out of chaos so to say. The problem with this is of course, THE THOUGHT POLICE MENTALITY, created by the controllers of Religion. In a perfect world where free will is balanced with moral guidance, rather than moral demands for political and economic gain, religion would be a benefit without a doubt. Human's being human, it all ends up as a power play with egoists manipulating the many sheep on the wide road. Jesus educated against this as an enlightened human being, preaching against organised religion. It is an irony that those who based a religion on Jesus, did the opposite. !

because in the end that's pretty much what it's going to boil down to. religion teaches you truth and how to love. i was always told that if you believe in god and your partner doesn't that the relationship you are trying to build will not work. but at the same time opposites attract. the relationship will probably become a game of tug of war in an attempt to try and see who wheres the pants in the relationship. usually that turns into heartbreak and when it does who's the first person you gonna talk to? and if your friend where is he gonna direct you too. if your not religious then your just a person who is behind in life. just by asking this question your showing religion. and by reading these answers you are finding interest in it as well. religion is something that you can't understand. your interested in it because you seek knowledge. theres people who keep there head above water which to me are shallow because they don't seek answers in life or to life. life's question are like a burried treasure. everyday is an adventure. those who seek what they want usually get it. and that could be from a fantasy job to the girl of your dreams. all of it is tied into religion because religion is knowledge and knowledge is power. you'll know if your religious or not when judgement day comes along. if they open up the gates for you your good to go. if not i would find the hottest place and lay there for a minute that way you can a taste of hell. its walking a path but at the same time its you creating your own world or maybe your afterlife. you hear what you wanna hear and thats how you walk your path. everything that happens wether good or bad is caused be cause people hear what they want to hear. it's kinda like that saying," hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil". jesus loves us and wants all of us to be in heaven with him. that's how the planet got flooded the first time. God seen that mans thoughts were wicked which gave birth to the genises. it may not make sense to you but that because i speak with spirituality. i speak fom the heart not the mind. judgement day is just what it means. its you and god,one on one. because your shallow think of it this way. you see how the court system is right now. the smartest person in the world couldn't get you out that jam. every word is takin into consideration. words that you twist will be untwisted and words that you try to twist will be twisted. you know how they say that alien intelligence is far greater then ours an example would be the movie "independence day" my opinion with dealing with god 1,000,000,000,000 and the reason for that is because when you face god your in reality facing yourself. so when you talk to a person and there mentality is i don't care. when it comes to challenging thereselves there conversation is going to be pretty quick which probably means there gonna go to hell,or they just didn't have a good enough relationship with god. if it makes sense then cool if not then disregard it and keep asking the same question. but to make a long story short, the point of having religion is so you can get a better understanding of yourself. and if you don't love yourself then i don't know what your purpose is in life.

Religion....the worst thing that happened to humankind
The first coming of Christ..the best thing that happened
The second coming of Christ...even better
You're right there is no point to religion..its man-made.
Christianity isn't about religion but about a relationship with a living (and soon to return) Jesus Christ
What a friend you can have if you would only seek after him!
I love him to death.

Brings hope is the biggest one. But the one I want to point out is how Christians tithes to the church is spent. Charities, soup kitchens, disaster relief, hospitals are opened, members of the church receive help when needed. So aside from the spiritual things there are many good things that religions can bring (well these are examples of Christianity at least.).

If you have a belief in the afterlife then religion can provide an environment to better connect to it and discover your true potential spiritually. Churches also apparantly provide social relief in various ways, but individually it is a powerful mechanism for formation of a spiritual landscape which can be used to increase sensitivity, compassion and intelligence.

It allows some people a sense of psychological comfort... they can delude themselves into believing in life after death, so that the pain of losing a loved one isn't quite so painful. Also the concept of having a divine judge allows some to have hope for justice even if they're being treated badly at the time.
Also, if you are religious, you do not have to believe in science if you don't want to. It is a good way to throw your political weight around too.

I would like to think that religion in general is there to help you be a better person.
Unfortunately, as you've probably seen here, many people have used religion as a way to justify their own bigotry and ignorance. More people need to speak up and say "hate is not a part of this faith".

do you want truth only or alleged beliefs everyone who is religious believes there is a god. some believe in antigod luciferian religion all believe that God teaches righteousness (except the satanic cults) all believe in something that is a form of hell and must fear God in order to repent of sin. all christianity believe is some form of jesus, even muslims. but that does not include All jews, although there are some jews that accept biblical New teachings from Jesus and redemption and messianich prophecies.

I don't like religion either. But I do believe in God. I think religion is a bunch of dogma to control people. It's mostly politics. I believe in spirituality, not religion.

you will when you die. If you think life for you is good, it probably isn't and you don't know, but im not the judge of that. Having a religion gives you more than hope but faith that there is a purpose in this life.
