I have a few credit cards for stores such as PacSun, Express, Target, and Lucky Brand Jeans, but I am pretty smart about using them, and I don't use them too much. I am kind of new to credit cards...

Is there usually a monthly or annual fee for these types of stores? Let's say I rarely use one of my cards, or I don't use it at all, would I still be charged at all? Even if the fee isn't too much, I would like to know.

To be more clear, do I have to pay $12 (or whatever the fee costs) every month or year just to have the card?

Most store credit cards don't have those kind of fees.

Some major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard) have annual fees. A few of the secured cards have complicated fee structures but these cards are aimed at folks with really bad credit.

You are very smart to not carry balances on your credit cards!

The people who make these offers think they have you over a barrel because your credit rating is currently poor. Because of this, they think they can really jam it to you. There are other ways to bring your credit rating up. You will have to pay higher interest rates, but you shouldn't have to pay these steep up-front costs. Actually, if you watch what you charge and pay the balance off every month, you won't pay any interest and will be improving your credit rating as you do this. Check for credit counseling. You should be able to find something that is free or low cost. I'm not sure what other ways may be available, just look around. Don't get a card if you can't make the payments. That's the first thing to get your credit rating back up, making the payments on time. This will be a long-term project. It won't happen overnight.

Yes, if CC have fee, you will have to pay, doesn't matter, you use the card or not. Call them and tell them, that you don't want to have a card with fee, check www.creditcard.com
and apply for CC without fee, then just cancel the one with a fee. Good Luck!
