I am going to be watching a child and the parents want my SSN to do a background check on me. I dont feel comfortable giving them my social. Is there any other way to do it? Can they just use my name and DOB?

They can, I'm a provider myself and have been for 8 years.... I've never come across a situation when a client needed my SSN.... aside from government agencies such as DHS that is. I wouldn't give that out... tell them politely that you have references and they can do backgrounds on you based on your name, DOB as well as address.

I wouldn't give out your SSN to anyone that you don't know unless its a reputable company. If its just a family asking for it then don't do it. You don't know these people and you don't know what they are going to do with it. I would tell them no and if you have to find a different job then do it. I understand them wanting a background check but giving out your SSN is not a good idea.

To do a federal background check they would need your social security number. If you are a licensed provider there is no need to give it.

ask them if they care if you get the background check done and give it to them. Then you can black out the ssn and give them the paperwork. It cost money, but not too much.

They will also need your SSN to report any money paid to you to the IRS, so think about whether you want to do this or not.

If I was leaving my children with someone, I'd want a background check also. However, you can choose not to babysit, and they can find themselves someone who is licensed, or bring them to a daycare center.

She has to have the two your ss# or your fin# as a manner to declare it. What countless daycare vendors do is get an FIN # & use that to grant to the parents rather of their Social. in case you do no longer sense gentle giving her your SS#, than tell her to have the tax organisation touch you, & you will supply your huge form to them (be certain you will possibly be sure this). I even have had a toddler in day care formerly, the service basically gave me her ss#. Now i'm a service myself, I have been given a fin# & print it on a paper alongside with the quantity the verify paid me.

They need your social security number. I've worked at few different daycares and for the backround checks it is required.

I would say find a different baby sitter, that they dont want a babysitter who is stupid enough to hand over their social security number to strangers.

No...I wouldn't let you watch my kid either without record of your social. If you don't want to give it..I wouldn't let you babysit. They are being very responsible with their child to even ask. Just give it to them...for pete sakes..they are trusting you with their child....which is more valueable than your social security number
