I would like to know of anyone who uses photoshop. I like to take pictures and mess with them to do some cool stuff to the pics. My question is....what progam do you use, where can you get it [if you know] and what are some cool things you can do with that particular program. i would also like to know about more professional programs that can take away blemishes in photos, leave everything b&w except for one or two colors, things like that. Thanks a bunch!

I use Photo Impact Pro. It is a great program for doing the things you mention and is user friendly. I paid about 85.00 for mine for Best Buy.

If you want to explore the world of Adobe Photoshop without spending the big money for the full product, get Photoshop Elements 5.0. It is a tremendously powerful program and it only sells for $99.00. You can get it at http://www.adobe.com or any of the usual places you buy software.

You can use it practically right out of the box with the "Quick Fix" option and then you can advance into the full program, learning TONS about the Photoshop world as you go. Frankly, I think neither you nor I would ever explore the full capabilities of Photoshop Elements 5.0. If you ever DO think you are ready for more, you will already know much of what you will need to know about "real" Photoshop. They'll undoubtedly have a new and improved version by then.

Just go here http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelwin/tryout.html and click "Download Now" for a 30-day free trial.

Every single image on my Flickr site was processed with Photoshop Elements 5.0. Some have fromzero to barely any post-processing at all and others have considerable amount of perspective alterations, saturation changes, etc., and these are specified under the picture most of the time. http://www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstein/

Photoshop is more or less the defactor standard in photo editing programs. There really is nothing "better".

You'll have to define what you mean by "cool stuff". If you are talking turning color images to BW, sepia tones, red-eye removal, virtual filters, blurring, resizing, basic stuff like that then you should be happy with a copy of Photoshop Elements 5($70). If you plan on doing more intensive editing, then a full blown version of photoshop might be in order.

However, 98% of what most photographers need/want to do with their images can be satisfied with Photoshop elements.

If you do decide to get the full blown Photoshop($700), also consider taking a class on howto use it. It is not for te faint of heart or casual user. That's why they made Elements.

Photoshop or Elements.
Microsoft Digital Imaging Suites.
The learning curve is pretty steep on PS, so be prepared to put in a good amount of time understanding how to use it. And when you get ready to do selective color, (leaving part of a picture in color and the rest b&w) , please do a search on YA before you ask how to do it. That question gets asked here frequently!
