I lost my cat Smokey a few years ago. He was a Siamese mix, the most gorgeous guy you ever saw. Maybe they are meeting each other now and exchanging stories about their adoring owners, wouldn't that be great!
It will take awhile, but someday you will be ready to honor Smokey's memory by saving another cat's life. Never forget what a blessing he was to your family and take comfort in knowing that you gave him a great life~

My 14 1/2 year old cat Rosa died 7 months ago, it was so hard to live with, I was absolutley heartbroken and grieved for months, and still grieve at times today. She was my best friend, I live alone and we spent a lot of time together. I loved her completely. I had her cremated and I still have her ashes. She was put to sleep, and so she wouldn't be afraid I was there with her, it was the hardest thing I have ever had to do and I will never forget when she passed. It takes time. I made a photo album, that helped. I made 8x10 photos of her and hung them on my wall. The first few weeks were the hardest because I would automatically go to her food bowl to feed her, or expect to see her in one of her favorite spots, I even called for her a few times. I had a few good friends that helped me by listening and acknowleding that this was a real loss. Don't let anyone rush you through your grief because it was "just a cat". Different people grieve for different lengths of time. Your grief will be proportionate to how much you loved your baby. It is normal to grieve. Time will heal you. I did get a kitten after a while, I still cried just as much but she made me focus on something else. Sometimes I call her Rosa by mistake, they look alike. It's probably not a good idea to rush out and get another cat, but if you can't live without one, as I couldn't, then you should get one. I am very sorry for your loss.

My cat, Jeffrey, is by far my best friend. Iost my "Charlie" last October at 15 yrs and it almost broke my heart, so I can sure relate. I hope Smokey didn't suffer and I also hope you all will think of getting a new kitten. You cannot replace Smokie, but cats all have their own personalities so look around and try and get one that has a personality that agrees with your family. There are so many unwanted kittens and cats in this world! My Jeffrey was a feral and I worked with him for months before he really trusted me, but I have never had such a loyal friend. God bless and I hope your pain lessens soon.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. It's so sad to lose a beloved pet. I hope you and your wife find it in your heart in the next year or so to honor his memory and the time you had with him, to bring another one into your lives. I lost my 14 yr old a year and a half ago. Now I have two little happy ones that keep me and each other company, and I love every minute of it. It doesn't keep me from thinking about my old kitty, instead it reminds me of why it was to have her for so many years.
So sorry for your loss.

I'm very sorry. It breaks your heart when one of your fur kids passes on. I know it sounds sort of hollow right now, but it does get better and you look back and think of your boy in happy terms and remember all the goofy, silly things that only a cat can do. :-(

I am so sorry for both of you. Our dear cats do not live as long as we do and I have had to suffer through the death of several now.
My heart goes out to you both. His spirit will always be with you and he does not want you to suffer as he is now free of pain and has entered another kind of existence.

I'm so sorry for you. I've had one of my cats die before, and I cried for days. I hope you feel better soon. Maybe make a scrapbook with pictures of him or a box with his fave toys and pics of him? That way you could remember him forever.
