Dog is in heat. Dog has been bred. Dog will die if she carries pups to term. What options are there? Herbal, hormonal, chemical, surgical? Thanks,
Courtenay

Okay, I understand the flip out, I should have provided more details. First of all, ALL MY DOGS ARE FIXED.
This is not my dog. I run a boarding kennel. The dog is being boarded here, and one of our employees screwed up and let her out of her run when she shouldn't have been let out. I'm not sure that a male tied with her, but it's possible. I do KNOW that there are hormonal options, and I think that is what the owners would prefer. I believe they SHOULD spay the dog, but if they won't, I'd like to prevent her from needing a surgical abortion. I understand that you must assume everyone is an idiot..

Surgical, the doctor will spay the female, remove the uterus and any pups she may be carrying and then she can't get pregnant any more.

Call the vet. I know there are things that can be given to cause an abortion, but I've never seen any of them used. From what I understand, spaying is safer than any of the other options. And if she would die from carrying them to term, why would the owners NOT want her spayed?

What is "emergency contraception"? Aren't there already condoms and foams and gels and stuff like that? After-the-fact contraception is another issue. If you believe, as I do, that life begins at conception, this is not really contraception, but something far more serious. I'm sorry for those who find themselves in this situation, but it doesn't make it right. I liked what Kirsten had to say. It is important to know what the product does. However, Faith in God is right that people who don't use what is there anyway won't help themselves.

Did the vet tell you that she would die, if she went through with the pregnancy. If he/she did, then they would be the best ones to talk to, about what options you may have. Good Luck! I hope everything turns out ok!

Spay her.

Mis-Mate is a shot your vet can give but it has risks and complications that do not make it worth using.

no contraceptive for dogs. shame for not having her spayed if you knew she couldn't carry to term. everyone should spay or neuter their pets. take her to the vet. they will spay her.

You have to take her to the vet and ask them to spay her ASAP. They'll spay her and she won't be pregnant anymore.

Call your vet and see what he/she recommends for your dog. This is the best thing and do it soon so there's little harm done.

Spay her! If she is not healthy enough to have pups, make it stop forever!
