Could anyone tell me what these signs are? And please be specific - not something general that has been around mankind for ages like wars or earthquakes, etc.

One of the main signs according to the bible would be Israel being attacked by an overwhelming millitary force and Israel wins with hardly any losses. Also look for signs of a charismatic popular political figure that will seem to unite the world in a great cause. Most likely he will come from Europe but I guess he could come from anywhere. This of course will be the anti-christ, not a killing machine like Damien in the Omen, he will seem to be the greatest person in the world. This is all only if you believe in this stuff, I'm not personally sure but if I see these signs I will get right down on my knees and pray.

People say that Christianity is on the decline.
That would be because there must be a "falling away" first.
Judgment begins, according to the Bible, in the House of the Lord.
Also, "it is given unto the beast to make war with the saints and overcome them."

But I don't think it will be what people are expecting at all...
I suspect a great many faces are going to be very very red.

EDIT:
I ought to clarify..."CHRISTIAN" faces are going to be very very red.
(hint: Tim LaHeye is a writer of fiction novels. Just like Dan Brown...or, for that matter, like yours truly. We are all speculating...)

The "rapture" of the church already happened it was taken to heaven in the 2nd century. We have been living through the tribulation for the last 1800 years. The church was restored to the earth in 1830.

The signs seem to be there. We are to look for all the signs being fulfilled to understand when the time is. No one knows the exact day. Jesus said we are to be ready and waiting.
Jesus said "I tell you the truth, this generation(of believers) will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away."

I have listed some of the signs.

Due to our new technology, the gospel is now being broadcast throughout the whole world. Jesus had said:

" And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in ALL the world for a witness unto ALL nations; and then shall the end come."Matthew 24:14

Although there have always been unbelievers, there is an increase in arrogance and outright insolence:

" Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation."2nd Peter 3:3-4

Regarding the earthquakes:

"For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places."Matthew 24:7

There are to be changes in the weather:

"There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."Luke 21:25-28(NIV)

There will be false religious people.
"For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.2nd Timothy 3:2-5

Many Christians and church doctrines will depart from the faith:
1st Timothy 4:1: Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

Global means of communication will exist:

The book of Revelation teaches us the ENTIRE world will see several events. This is unique to our generation as only recently in mankind's history have these technologies been present.

Revelation 11:9: And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.(referring to the two last days prophets)

Many will claim to be Christ or deceive using His name:

"Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am He,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not follow them. Luke 21:8 (NIV)(It has also been suggested-teaching that Jesus is the Christ could be used as a way to deceive people into following their own teachings rather than Jesus' , as there are no quotation marks in the Greek)

Luke 21:17: And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.

Technology will exist capable of tracking the world's population and their finances:

"And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name."Revelation 13:16-17

"When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.
Then he said to them: "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.Luke 21:9-11(NIV)

Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.Luke:24(NIV)

There are more-a lot of them have to do with what is happening to Israel. You can look up end times prophecy for more information.

I wouldn't say that there were any signs that the coming of Christ was here because this passage tells clearly what is going to happen first.

2 Thessalonians 2:1 Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers, 2 not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.

3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.

5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time.

7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming.

9 The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, 10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, 12 in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

This link contains a list of fifty-one of the Signs of the Times. That's quite a few and should keep you busy for a while. Each is explained nicely.

I pulled pieces from a cite. Visit it, it has many more evidence.

-One good example is the mark of the beast. For centuries it was technologically impossible for a system to track every financial transaction on the planet. We now have the technology on hand to implement the global financial system Antichrist will compel the world to receive.

-People have been making educated guesses of the date of the rapture closer and closer to our time

-In the past few years, Bible prophecy has been given a great deal of exposure by the press. Because of the huge success of the "Left Behind" series, some of the most liberal television and print media organizations have felt compelled to produce stories on the end times. I remember in the late '90s, U.S. News and World Report was the first publication to clearly mention the pre-trib rapture.

-Never before has it been so clear that Bible prophecy is on the verge of being fulfilled, and never before has the subject of prophecy been given so much coverage by the mass media. Despite the abundance of these two positive factors, the level of apathy has grown steadily worse.
Jesus talked more about apathy than He did about any other end-time signs. What makes apathy such a strong indicator of an imminent rapture is its ability to affect believers. If you’re not looking for the Lord’s return, you’re actually helping fulfill prophecy.

-God Removing His Hand of Protection

When Billy Graham's daughter, Anne, was being interviewed on "The Early Show," she was asked why God would allow the tragedy of 9/11 to happen. Anne Graham gave a very insightful response. She said, "I believe that God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentleman that He is, I believe that He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand that He leave us alone?"
For many years God has spared America from the horrors that have plagued the rest of the world. Because the U.S. has been a friend to Israel and a spiritual and financial blessing to the world, God has protected us.

Because our nation has drifted off its Christian foundations, we now see signs that the Lord is withdrawing His hedge of protection. This weekend, Florida was hit by a fourth , setting a record there in the number of such storms in a single season. The total storm damage in that state is expected to rise beyond the $20 billion mark.

What makes God’s removal of protection so important to the subject of the timing of the rapture is that His ultimate removal of protection will involve the removal of the Church itself. The Holy Spirit’s work in the Body of Christ is reason the earth has not endured a more violent history. When the Church is gone, the restraining factor will leave with it, and the devil will be free to do as he pleases.

-Normally, when God’s people fail to police members of their own faith, the Lord turns to the secular world to accomplish the task. Once the world fails to act, the Lord turns to calamity to get man’s attention. The silence we are seeing now may be the calm before the storm.
