Everyone is different. I'm sure your dentist did what was right for you. Some dentists don't think it is necessary to pull any teeth, but the number you had extracted is not abnormal.
What you should prepare for is not being able to eat solid food for about a week. Everyone is different, like I said. But, most people have a VERY sensitive mouth immediately after braces are applied. Teeth may feel achy and your lips, gums, and tongue may be irritated by the braces. This is normal.
Prepare by eating what you want before the braces go on. You should not eat chips, nuts, and chewy items (such as "now and later" candy, caramels) while you have braces. Never use your teeth as a tool...ie...use scissors to open bags, etc. Never put anything into your mouth that is not meant to be eaten...ie...chewing on straws, or pencils.
You will be anxious, and may not want to eat just before getting your braces on. I suggest that you eat anyway. you will be glad later.
Think of and plan to have on hand the things you enjoy that you believe you will be able to eat. My daughters ate: ice cream, pintos from taco bell, mashed potatoes, yogurt, mac 'n' cheese, oatmeal.
Plan to carry a soft toothbrush with you at all times and brush EVERYTIME you eat. Swishing with warm salt water will help during this adjustment phase. Also, carry dental wax to put on irritated spots. This uncomfortable phase won't last long....but while it does, it can be sorta miserable..the "price of beauty."
Don't forget!!! Orthodontists do NOT do routine check ups on your teeth. You will need to see your regular dentist every 3-4 months for cleaning and checking for cavities. This is VERY important. Food gets trapped around the braces and can promote cavaties and stains.
On the positive side...one day you will have THE MOST FABULOUS SMILE!!! You will ALWAYS want your teeth to show in photographs. Also, don't be self-conscious....more people than you realize had braces to get the lovely teeth they have, so they understand...AND, those who don't have or haven't had braces, usually WISH they could!
YOUR SMILE WILL BE GORGEOUS and it will ALL have been worth it....FOREVER! You are blessed!
Peace be with you,
SMILE

I have worked in the dental field for 16 years....
The number of teeth that need to be extracted before orthodontics can be started can vary depending on the size of the jaw. The usual number is 4.
As far as the bleeding, that is normal, as long as it's not excessive. If the dentist gave you extra gauze, fold a piece in half, and then in half again, and place it where the teeth were. Bite down on the gauze for 30-45 min. The pressure helps to stop bleeding. If this doesn't work, take a tea bag and do the very same thing. It is normal to have some oozing and bleeding at the extraction site for the first day, but also remember when it mixes with saliva, there may appear to be more blood than there really is. For the remainder of today, DO NOT rinse, spit, or drink anything thru a straw. After 24-36 hrs. has passed, you can rinse with warm salt water. This helps with soreness and promotes healing, and if you should need to take anything for pain, you can safely take up to 4 Advil every 6 hrs. as long as you have some food in your stomach. If you've tried everything listed above and this still does not work, then please contact the dentist that pulled the teeth, or go to the emergency room. I sincerely hope this helps. Good luck!

It all depends on the size of the jaw and how big your teeth are. I had 4 teeth pulled, not counting wisdom teeth. It's normal for there to be bleeding, it may seem like a lot because it mixes a bit with your saliva. Be careful with what you eat for a few days, (soft foods) until your gums heal.
Some othodontists now recommend taking some tylenol before you get your braces or spacers on and just before each appointment and for a day or so after each adjustment. Your mouth will be sore but it's temporary. Will you be getting an expander?

Yes it is normal. I also had to pull 4 teeth because I didn't have any space in my mouth. But getting them all out in the same day it's too painful. My dentist recommend me to pull 2 first and then the others in 2 weeks. And that's what I did, so I wasn't in pain.
The blood loss is dangerous, but as long as you keep the white cotton things (don't remember the name right now) pressing them in the first day you'll be okay.
If the problem was that you didn't have space, you can let nature work and give time for the other teeth to accommodate in their place that they couldn't before.

I got 2 out but then i only needed the brace for my top teeth. I think if you have a brace on the top and bottom then 4 is normal yeah. It all depends how much room they need to make to pull your other teeth back.

Me 2 I had 4 teeth pulled out before getting braces. Don't worry you don't lose that much blood if you keep cootton balls on your gums and bite. I also had my 4 wisdom teeth pulled out a year ago. So in total I had 8 pulled out

Sounds like your mouth was over-crowded. The blood loss isn't dangerous, don't worry.
