Like with different singing styles such as rap, or reagea? To show your realizations of God using modern things, and using modern styles?

sweetbreeze, I love your songs on youtube! i think your expressions and sentiments are wonderful, with sound siddhanta, and yet they are modern too. They are great for young people of western heritage, and any heritage really, They prove to me that thes modern styles can be used for glorifying Guru and God. I asked this question because of you. :-)

I can't understand shakespear because the language back then is weird for me now, (I am sure Shakespear couldn't understand the way we talk nowadays too)

(just examples)

If Jesus came today would he still wear a robe and sandals?
Maybe he would. I really can't say!

My Gurudev dresses pretty old fashioned. But he does wear new shoes.....(not sandals)
He uses computers and airplanes too, because he preaches all over the world and travels all the time.

Sometimes I hear modern sounding religious music and it makes me sick. But other times it sounds cool.

but um what do you think of my song?

Dear,

When a devotee sings for the Lord, or does anything to show his feelings, ONLY the purity and levels of these feelings count... and the way how it is being represented really doesn't matter at all.

Being the way it is represented is itself Nishkara, or Temporary... but the feelings are eternal and do not end with time, and similarly spirituality is also eternal and does not end with time.

In more higher terms, any Potencies or Nature above Our Mind and Hence above time, Is not effected by time, because time is Sub natured to them.

But again, when a devotee in pure devotion, does anything, it may be even a rap, The tunes, and all properties automatically come to a mode of Sattva, or goodness. Because the subtle nature for every materially demonstrated activity, belongs to the subtle nature intended by the activity itself.

If you're a Christian, you should look to the Bible for what it says about how to behave. That should be your standard, shouldn't it? If you find nothing contradicting something you want to do, then there is your answer. If you do, you should ask yourself which one is more important.

EDIT: Wow, the verses quoted above seem to give quite a bit of leeway. I wouldn't be surprised if they were the verses used by The Family to win converts to Jesus through "flirty fishing". In case you don't know, that's where women would pick up men in nightclubs and sleep with them in order to "win them to the Lord". Pretty bizarre and I'm sure that's not what Jesus had in mind. Be careful. This idea could really lead you astray.

It's not so much the fact that modern religious music is modern, but the fact that the quality of the music is extremely poor when compared to modern secular counterparts. I have to say that all the religious music I enjoy is classical and traditional. The funny thing is that I'm not even a believer.

The ways may be anyhow-but the destination should be only One! Its not at all to show knowledge of God in modern ways-slides, shows, videos, etc-its only spreading this way! But at the same time if it comes to singing bhajans in the form of reagea or rap-it may mislead the main intention of a bhajan, etc. We should be leading a simple life to achieve any progress in spiritualism and not go the other way!

This s probably a survey in disguise but I cannot Imagine a good and caring God,s approval of young people playing loud rap music while elderly people next door are trying to sleep or rest. I am undecided about styles, tattoos and piercings, believe drug and alcohol is sinful but Jesus did say, "Judge not lest ye be judged"

It is absolutely nothing wrong whether one prays "Traditional" or "Modern" ways as long it touches the "Heart"(people say one should say "Brain" because heart is only a pumping machine and can be replaced with Heart-lung machine and it is brain which is connected to emotions)--Yesterday's "Modern" is today's "Traditional"---it is how Picaso--Beethoven---"modern" in their time and criticised became traditional and adored--if it is NOT "Emotional" it would disappear on its own-(like Baadhsha Akbar's "Teen Illahi")-it should stand the "Test" of "Time"(Kaala Vithyaasam and Kaala Vilambam)-it is the large population which adores or rejects in due course--"Yath Rochathi Tat graahyam-Yan Na Rochathi Tat Thyaajyam"

I don't think it's wrong as long as it's sincere. I think a lot of the dislike for this way of showing your love for God comes from the fact that when things first appear on the scene (like rap, rock-n-roll) it is seen as rebellious and therefore is automatically not accepted by the religious community.

No it not wrong to show knowledge of God and religious beliefs in modern ways. Although some will probably tell you it is. If that's your gift then go for it.

If you have the heartfelt realizations of the god and if your prayers are true you can express it in any way you like. In fact no specific culture is required to pray god and it is enough you have him in your heart. God has not specified any particular culture for this. If your culture is acceptable by others it will become famous.-
